Dichroic Glass
What is it?

 Yourkowski Dichroic Glass Bowl

Dichroic glass has become a very popular material among glass artists.  The word dichroic is derived from a Greek word meaning "two colors".

Dichroic glass transmits one  color and reflects an entirely different color.  This means that the glass will show different colors at different angles, depending on how the light hits it.

Dichroic glass was originally developed by NASA for use in the space industry for use in satellite optics and spacesuit visors.  Extremely thin layers of metallic oxides are vaporized by an electron beam in a vacuum chamber.  The vapor then condenses in a crystalline layer on the glass.

The incredible properties of this glass make it a favorite among glass artists, especially jewelry designers, as a piece of fused dicroic glass has gemlike quaities.

Furry Friends Miss Kitty

mitercraft bookmanrks

Miss Kitty is our resident "porch cat".  She is actually cared for by Doug and Ann, who live on a boat in the harbor, but she spends most of her days sunning herself on our porch.

Often she likes to come in for a visit as well.  Jill shot this photo during one of Miss Kitty's morning strolls through the shop.

Greetings!
Last month we changed our format a bit, focusing on some of the "under $20.00" items in our gallery.
With Christmas coming and people feeling the economic pinch, we thought we would continue to feature some great gift ideas that don't break the bank. This month we are going to show you a dozen wonderful, handcrafted gifts for $50.00 or less.
If you want to revisit our gifts under $20.00, you can view our
