Looking for local events commemorating Dr. King's birthday? As part of its special initiative, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: Remembrance and Reconciliation, MHC has created a calendar of Martin Luther King Jr., Day and Black History Month events. Whether you're eight or 80, there's sure to be something for you. Find out what's happening in your corner of the state. Or, tell us what's going on with your organization and let us help publicize your program! Contact ljones@mdhc.org to learn more. |

Join the Conversation!
MHC invites organizations throughout Maryland to participate in community conversations about the legacy of Dr. King and the state of race relations in their communities. To plan a Community Conversation, contact Lydia Woods, Grants and Community Outreach Coordinator, at lwoods@mdhc.org. MHC also has grant funds available to organizations to plan and conduct these facilitated conversations. Go to www.mdhc.org for grant guidelines, a schedule of programs and events already planned, and a list of cultural organizations, museums, libraries, and community and civic groups that have indicated interest in partnering with programming for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: Remembrance and Reconciliation initiative. |

Got Plans... for Poetry?
If not, MHC has the solution for you with the Poetry's Here @ Your Maryland Library! This program offers a roster of events that celebrates Maryland poetry and poets, and encourages you to contribute a verse. This month, embrace visual art, learn about different styles of poetry, write your own poems, and read your work with "LOVE the poet" at the "Live Lyrics!: Interpretive Poetry" workshop. Meanwhile, poet Mary Azrael encourages participants to write a poem and make a hand-crafted book with the workshop "Binding Spines: A Bookmaking Project." Check out MHC's calendar of events to learn about these and other informative and interactive poetry happenings! | |
