Art on the Hill Anniversary Celebration June 11, 6pm Tobin Hill Arts Alliance 527 E Dewey Place
The Tobin Hill Arts Alliance celebrates its first anniversary of the Art on the Hill art walk. The June Art Walk includes galleries and art studios featuring more than 40 of San Antonio's contemporary artists, with live music at each venue. The opening reception features Triangle-musical entertainment by Josh Glenn, live drawing demonstration by Raul Castellanos, refreshments provided by Tycoon Flats, and a showcase of new installations of garden sculptures at various venues along the walk. Texas Folklife Festival June 11 - 13 Institute of Texan Cultures 801 E. Durango Blvd.
More than 40 different cultural groups in Texas are represented at the festival, and each year, more than 250 participants come together to celebrate their culture and heritage. Located on the grounds of the Institute of Texan Cultures on the UTSA HemisFair Park Campus, the annual three-day event showcases the Lone Star State's diversity and rich heritage through a wide variety of ethnic food, music, dance, arts, and crafts. www.texasfolklifefestival.org

A re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend based on Mel Brooks' classic comedy masterpiece, the story follows bright young Dr. Frankenstein as he attempts to complete his grandfather's masterwork and bring a corpse to life. June Artist of the Month
|
The June Artist of the Month is Roberto Prestigiacomo.
Roberto Prestigiacomo is a theatre-maker whose creative work includes directing, playwriting, developing community-based theatre through improvisation, storytelling techniques, and the creation of original performances (TransPerformance). Roberto teaches at Trinity University and is the co-founder and Producing Artistic Director of AtticRep, a professional theatre company in residence at Trinity University. AtticRep will open its final production of its fourth season on June 9, with a double bill of two one act plays: The Reason of the Insane written and directed by Roberto Prestigiacomo and .us. created by AtticRep Theatre Ensemble and directed by Rachel Joseph.

Dallas Museum of Art Announces 2010 Awards to Artists Grants (6/09/2010) Peter Simek "The Dallas Museum of Art has announced 16 recipients of the 2010 Awards to Artists. The program consists of two awards, the Clare Hart DeGolyer Memorial Fund, which gives financial grants to young artists from Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, or Colorado between the ages of 15 and 25 years, and the Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Fund, open to Texas artists over 30."
