Shakespeare in the Park: Romeo and Juliet June 2-5, 8pm San Antonio Botanical Garden 555 Funston
A collaboration between The Magik Theatre and the San Antonio Botanical Society, Shakespeare in the Park is a free annual event that brings full-scale productions of Shakespeare's work to the entire community. Shakespeare in the Park gives everyone the opportunity to see Shakespeare's characters and stories come to life with the beautiful Botanical Garden background as its stage. Fire in the Belly June 3, 6-9pm Blue Star Labs 114 Broadway
Blue Star_Lab, an annex of Blue Star Contemporary Art Center, is a venue that allows for expanded exhibitions from the Blue Star Main Campus, as well as the promotion of experimental work. The first exhibition at Blue Star_Lab will be Fire in the Belly, a joint-show with Blue Star's Middle Gallery. The grand opening reception will feature live music by Diego Bernal and The Colt of Us in Best Buy Alley at Blue Star_Lab and by Mickey House at the Main Campus. The Blue Star Bus will provide complimentary shuttle service between the two locations on the evening of the opening. www.bluestarart.org

Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center celebrates the closing of the exhibition, Mas Rudas Collective: Operation Canis Familiaris. The closing event includes a silent auction featuring works up for bid from each of the artists, "Save the Westside Gau Gaus" t-shirts and posters for sale, a special "Bean Dip" set up inside the Mas Rudas living room and live bands playing in the Gallery. www.guadalupeculturalarts.org

Every two years SAY Sí presents new works featuring SAY Sí leadership and exemplary alumni. The year SAY Sí presents artwork by; Mike Schroeder, an architect and founder of say sí; Jorge Garza, an artist, retired arts educator and say sí board president; Jeannette Macdougall, an artist, arts educator and former say sí board member; Rolando Garza, a local artist and firefighter; Jon Hinojosa, an artist and the artistic/executive director of say sí; and Jesse and Marcos Medellin, say sí alums, college students and alumni instructors in say sí's outreach program. www.saysi.org

The San Antonio Symphony presents the finale of their 70th anniversary season. The performance begins with one of Beethoven's most powerful overtures and concludes with the great English symphonic masterpiece conducted by Artistic Advisor Christopher Seaman, and features Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg on violin. June Artist of the Month
|
The June Artist of the Month is Roberto Prestigiacomo.
Roberto Prestigiacomo is a theatre-maker whose creative work includes directing, playwriting, developing community-based theatre through improvisation, storytelling techniques, and the creation of original performances (TransPerformance). Roberto teaches at Trinity University and is the co-founder and Producing Artistic Director of AtticRep, a professional theatre company in residence at Trinity University. AtticRep will open its final production of its fourth season on June 9, with a double bill of two one act plays: The Reason of the Insane written and directed by Roberto Prestigiacomo and .us. created by AtticRep Theatre Ensemble and directed by Rachel Joseph.
