In a special reading from his new, recently released memoir, The Farthest Home Is in an Empire of Fire (A Tejano Elegy), John Phillip Santos will present at Bihl Haus Arts surrounded by the work of some of his artist friends whose work inspired him during the years he was writing the book. StoneMetal Press presents the multi media original prints of Austin artist, Cathy Savage. The title of the exhibit, Changing States, refers not only to "state proofs," the physical change that occurs while establishing a print, but also to the exploration of alteration in the conceptual and visual process. The prints in the exhibit combine numerous printmaking techniques including drypoint, monoprint, collograph and relief. Savage also uses the ancient art of encaustic painting with some of her prints and incorporates social, religious, scientific and mathematical influences in work. Psychedelic: Optical and Visionary Art since the 1960s Through August 1 San Antonio Museum of Art 200 W. Jones Ave.
San Antonio Museum of Art mounts an exhibit of psychedelic art from the Op Art of the early 1960s to the abstract and visionary works of today. Curator David Rubin takes the lead in what he calls the first-ever look at the development of a "psychedelic sensibility" in contemporary art of the last 40 years. A Conversation with Richard Anuszkiewicz Tuesday April 27 at 6:30pm. David S. Rubin interviews artist Richard Anuszkiewicz about his life and art. Anuszkiewicz rose to national prominence in the 1960s as one of the foremost pioneers of what became known as "Op Art." www.samuseum.org

April Artist of the Month
