Relative Distances January 7 - 24 UTSA Satellite Space 115 Blue Star
Relative Distances showcases works of four professional ceramic artists, all recent arrivals to San Antonio from different parts of the country: Paul Northway (Montana), Wesley Harvey (Lubbock), Ryan Takaba (Hawaii), and Jennifer Ling Datchuk (Ohio). The common element is that each artist takes a sculptural approach to the medium. Yet in diverse ways, the works of these artists reveal traces of influence that may challenge or affirm our relative positions and perspectives. FREE (210) 212-7146

Ron Adams: His Own Works January 7 - February 27 StoneMetal Press Studio 1420 S Alamo #101
Adams' kinship with Dürer, Goya and the Mexican muralists is apparent in his work, classically rendered with proliferating detail in a manner unique to the artist. His style builds on realism, but expands into expressionism. As a Master Printer, Ron Adams collaborated with artists including Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Judy Chicago, and John Biggers. The public is invited to a free gallery talk by Adams, Sunday, January 10, at 2 pm. FREE www.stonemetal-press.com

Reclaimed: Paintings from the Collection of Jacques Goudstikker Through January 10 McNay Art Museum 6000 N. New Braunfels
On February 6, 2006, 200 old master paintings were restituted to Marei von Saher, the daughter-in-law and sole living heir of Jacques Goudstikker, 66 years after they had been looted from Goudstikker's Amsterdam art gallery by Reichsmarschall Hermann Goring as he led the Nazi onslaught into Holland in May 1940. Forty-six of those 200 works are included in this extraordinary exhibition. To view the paintings in this exhibition is to learn about one of the greatest restitution stories of our time. It also gives San Antonio a rare opportunity to see a particularly fine collection of primarily Dutch "Golden Age" paintings of the 17th century, and a fine group of Renaissance paintings that parallel the McNay's own Oppenheimer Collection. www.mcnayart.org
