CarverMiss Bowden's Dream & La Frontera

The Theatre Program at St. Philip's College presents two, one-act plays by the late San Antonio playwright, Sterling Houston. Miss Bowden's Dream explores the history of a woman who came to St. Philip's College in 1902 as a teacher. Miss Bowden worked until 1966 to build the institution from a small school of twenty-one students into an institution of over 10,000 students. La Frontera is a light comedy about a Latino family who moved next door to an African-American family on San Antonio's Eastside in the early 90's. www.alamo.edu
Carver Lakota Sioux Indian Dance Theatre

Delve into the rich cultural tapestry of the Lakota Sioux with a presentation of traditional American-Indian dance and music by tribal members. The day includes a matinee presentation by nationally recognized artists and a variety of post-show arts and craft activities designed to enliven the experience. Visitors will also receive the Passport to Culture Discovery Guide, allowing the adventure to continue at home with fun and educational activities and background history. www.thecarver.org

Sample seafood, freshly grilled meats, vegetarian specialties, trend oriented fare, desserts and so much more as San Antonio's finest chefs prepare just the right amount to pair with an array of wines and beverages to sample. Eugenia León has dedicated her career to preserving and defending Mexican and Latin American cultura, and the musical expression that bears a message of social justice. Inspired by Nueva Cancion and Trova Cubana, Eugenia formed el Grupo Victor Jara in the 1970s. The group explored musical genres that are testimonios of the severe repression Latinoamericanos have survived. www.esperanzacenter.org

The first concert of the 2009-10 SA Brass season features the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. The concert features the SA Brass' own arrangements of some of Bach's most popular works as well as music from his Art of the Fugue. Western art museum to have River Walk home

"The artistic legacy of the Old West settled along a bend of the River Walk with the turning of several shovels in black soil Friday morning. Members of the National Western Art Foundation and city dignitaries took part in the ceremony, officially breaking ground at the future arts pavilion and Dolph and Janey Briscoe Western Art Museum."
