TEXAS

Dallas Arts District built on patience and persistence
Dallas Morning News (9/28/09)
David Dillon
"The goal from Day One - 31 years ago - has been to legitimize Dallas' claim as a "city of the arts," revive its slumbering downtown and create a grand civic place where everyone would feel welcome even without a ticket."

NATIONAL

Michelle Obama tells international audience why the arts matter
LA Times (9/25/09)
Mike Boehm
"Michelle Obama hosted a concert this morning at the Pittsburgh Creative & Performing Arts School for its students and the spouses of international leaders deliberating at the G-20 economic summit.  She gave an 11-minute address about the arts as a prelude to performances by guests Sara Bareilles, Yo-Yo Ma and Trisha Yearwood."

INTERNATIONAL

Artists Test Limits as China Lets (a Few) Flowers Bloom
The Wall Street Journal (10/01/09)
Ian Johnson and Sky Canaves
"Few art scenes have been as whiplashed by change as China's. As the People's Republic begins a week of celebrations Thursday to mark its 60th anniversary, the country's often-edgy contemporary artists are a proxy for the country's fast-changing political landscape."
