StonemetalGreen & Brown: Leamon Green and Lenard Brown
January 30 - February 28
StoneMetal Press Gallery
1420 S. Alamo, #104

The exhibition features original prints and mixed media by two African-American artists. Leamon Green draws his inspiration from a photographic archive from his hometown of Anniston, Alabama. These anonymous portraits allow Green the freedom to imply a history. The content of Lenard Brown's prints revolves around functional, man-made objects. Brown visualizes these objects as African masks and dance shields. As a result, his works relate Western thinking to African philosophy and Christianity to African mythology. www.stonemetal-press.com

Gemini Black and Blue
February 2, 7pm
San Antonio College
1300 San Pedro

Gemini Ink kick-starts Black History month with Sterling Houston's Black and Blue, an hour-long snapshot of the African-American odyssey, pairing jazz and blues with documents from the American slavery era. Written and compiled by Sterling Houston, this performance pairs traditional jazz and blues with readings of actual historical documents from the American slavery era, including public postings offering rewards for runaway slaves, excerpts from letters and journals by both slaves and slave owners, and a San Antonio ordinance defining punishment for slaves caught out after curfew. www.geminiink.org
