SaalmSky Patterson: Artist of the Year
Through October 19
San Antonio Art League and Museum
130 King William Street

Sky Patterson's work has been described as postmodern figurative and is influenced by Nathan Oliveira, Francis Bacon, and Richard Diebenkorn. Patterson explores his subjects by working in series and paints, he says, because of paint's sensuality, which allows for a ritualistic approach to making art thereby providing a form of self-realization and catharsis. "The medium is my subject first and foremost. My paint acts as a stimulus for the figure rather the other way around. The paintings are celebrations of color, process and figurative gesture."
