Camerata Romantic Beginnings

The program includes Frederic Chopin's Polonaise brillante for cello and piano, Joaquin Turina's colorful Scene Andalouse for solo viola, piano and string quartet, three short string trio movements by Hans Krasa, and Johannes Brahms' magnificent Op. 111 string quintet.  Performers include guest violist, Yizhak Schotten, who has performed around the world and Camerata San Antonio regulars - Karen Stiles and Sayaka Okada, violins, Emily Watkins Freudigman, viola, and Kenneth Freudigman, cello - all musicians with the San Antonio Symphony. www.cameratasa.org

Broadening the vocabulary of the picture-plane through the use of the moving image, Leslie Raymond incorporates video's inevitable language of time. This group of landscape images embodies artifacts of the passage of time (including lapsed time, movement through time and space, and time pressure) while simultaneously considering composition, color, shape and form. The 2008 "El Grito" features the group "Tradiciones" from Monterrey who will present folkloric dance, the Trio "Los Reyes" (Gilberto Puente, Raúl Puente & Bebo Cardenas) who will play Bolero music and the Mariachi "Sangre Mexicana" with Manuel Vargas. The special guest this year, the Mexican singer Azucena from Guadalajara, Jalisco, will be accompanied by the Mariachi "Sangre Mexicana". www.saculturamexico.org

Cultural Theme Planned for 2012 Olympics in London

"The London Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) announced on Thursday that it would launch a four-year program of cultural events to lead up to the 2012 Olympic Games.
Designed to highlight the country's arts and culture, the $70 million project will comprise 500 events, including a Shakespeare festival and a light show at Windsor Castle, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation."

September Artist of the Month
BettThe September Artist of the Month is Bett Butler.
 
Bett Butler is a singer/songwriter/pianist and so much more. After graduating with a music degree from Trinity University, she worked in professional theater as a writer, actor, musical director, composer and accompanist. Butlers first CD Short Stories, a mix of jazz and blues originals, and earned a "recommended" rating from All Music Guide. The CD also won critical acclaim from John Swenson of United Press International, who raved, "Bett Butler brought me to that place where music can salve the deepest wound, mend the heart most broken."
