Oliver Lutz: Paint It Black
Through August 17
Artpace
445 North Main Avenue
New York based artist Oliver Lutz tackles themes of power, control and disintegration through bodies of work that conflate painting, drawing, video, and audio. Lutz's Artpace installation, Paint It Black brings together several facets explored previously alone. Commissioned and produced by Artpace, all of the work in the Hudson (Show)Room was conceived and executed for this occasion. Resituating the subject of art in relation to the world of sports, the exhibition takes on contemporary mass spectacle as a breeding ground for culturally conditioned rituals, myths, and social interaction. www.artpace.org |

DEADLINE FOR PROJECT AND OPERATIONAL
APPLICATIONS IS WEDNESDAY, MAY 28 AT 5 pm
The Office of Cultural Affairs is committed to ensuring that all applicants to the arts funding division are afforded complete and equitable access to the application process, which includes the ability to work on the application for the originally allocated number of days. Last week our SAHEARTS web site was subject to a technical shut-down for two business days and recent technical upgrades and information was lost in the process of uploading. The technical and information issues were also reported by several agencies working on their applications. In order to fully comply with the original total number of allowable dates to work on the On-Line application, the Office of Cultural Affairs is extending the deadline for two (2) additional business days to Wednesday, May 28th by 5 pm. All of the identified issues have been updated. We have also verified the information in those applications already submitted and found no issues or concerns. The deadline for all attachments remains the same, Friday, May 30th at 4pm at the Office of the City Clerk. Should you have any questions please feel free to contact Frank Villani at 210-207-6963 or by e-mail at frank.villani@sanantonio.gov.

A paraphrase of Gil Scott-Heron's classic spoken-word anthem describes Patricia Martin's message to community arts and business leaders. Martin, a cultural marketing consultant based in Chicago, is documenting a "cultural metamorphosis" that is part of "the disruption that occurs when the dominant civilization loses its relevance and another rises to replace it." NATIONAL Louisiana's Investing In Culture Forbes (5/16/08) Mitch Landrieu "Louisiana's Lt. Governor, Mitch Landrieu, writes about the Cultural Economy Initiative he launched in 2003.
