Beatriz Ezban confronts a politically charged contemporary issue; however, her emphasis is not on divisions but rather on the nature of thresholds, what she describes as the magnetic fields where cultures meet and interact. She translates these concerns into universal and aesthetic terms, in richly textured paintings made with oil and wax on linen, the surfaces scraped with a palette knife. Ezban explores the transitional range between figuration and abstraction. www.saculturamexico.org

Printmaker Nicole Geary has been printing on surfaces other than paper for several years.  Feminist issues such as body image, equal rights, and gender discrimination often influence Geary's work. In point, pattern, print, Geary continues to highlight these struggles, delving into personal and sometimes painful issues women have with their bodies throughout their lives. Various printed images are bound up by the needle and thread, and a new image may appear from the pieces of another. www.fiberartspace.com

Leo is a Capitol Hill speechwriter struggling to stay employed. His brother Francis is a psychiatric outpatient convinced that he is the reincarnation of Abraham Lincoln. Leo's employer, a stunningly mediocre congressman, looks headed for defeat in his re-election bid, but when Francis secretly takes over the speechwriting, the congressman starts sounding heroic, even inspiring. Lincolnesque is a seriously comic look at Washington's political strategies during elections. www.atticrep.org
