The San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet presents two performances of classical and contemporary dance. Guest artists Erica De La O and Kristopher Wojtera of the Louisville Ballet will accompany the 32-member company along with dancers from San Antonio Parks and Recreation's performing troupes Fandango and Alamotion. SA Met Ballet will perform works from local choreographers, Priscilla Martinez, Karin Connally and Susan Connally as well as a commissioned work by Diana Law among others. www.sametballet.org

The UTSA Department of Music takes on the recent dance craze in America with Fiesta Under the Stars: An Evening of Dance Music. Music that ranges from the Latin tango, to 40s swing, to the flamenco will have audience members tapping their toes under a veil of springtime stars. Performance pieces will include "On the Town" by Leonard Bernstein, "Love Unspoken" from "The Merry Widow" and "Can't Stop the Beat" from "Hairspray." The City of San Antonio Planning and Community Development Department, in partnership with San Antonio for Growth on the Eastside (SAGE), will host an Open House from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Tuesday, April 29, at the Heritage Room at St. Philip's College, 1801 Martin Luther King Drive. April Artist of the Month 

SpotTo many, Spot Barnett is a San Antonio Tenor Saxophone legend. A fixture of the local blue scene, He's been dubbed "King of the Eastside" and the "Godfather of San Antonio Blues."  A legendary talent as a saxophonist, he's also known for additional longtime contributions to music, a band leader and composer and frequently mixes blues with jazz and rock nš roll.

"..After years of struggling to fill the venue's 299 seats, theater management struck gold in 2007 with the traveling production of "Menopause the Musical: The Hilarious Celebration of Women and the Change." The curtain went up in May on an open-ended season. When the show announced that it would end in August, the audience revolted."

Those celebrated for their long-time commitment to Austin's arts community are long-time philanthropists Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long, whose arts patronage of the Austin Symphony Orchestra and in particular the Long Center for the Performing Arts, named in their honor after they donated $22 million to the recently completed $77 million center."

Museums and symphony halls that financed renovations with seemingly safe municipal bonds saw interest rates spike in recent weeks; other arts institutions are suffering from low returns on investments; and some arts executives are worried that recession fears could take a bite out of donations and ticket sales."
