Greetings!

Welcome to the September newsletter for the Solar America Board for Codes and Standards (Solar ABCs). In this newsletter you will learn about current Solar ABCs projects and standard and code activities from other organizations.

If you want to play an active role in discussion, debate, and the preparation of position statements and policies, you may sign up to become an active member of one or more panels. The Solar ABCs is organized into different panels with each having responsibility for different topics related to specific codes or standards.

Let me know if you have any suggestions for future newsletters or any other comments for Solar ABCs.

Last year Solar ABCs conducted a Gap Analysis to identify issues that were not being addressed in ongoing codes and standards work.  As a result of the priorities identified, Solar ABCs is beginning work on the following study reports.
  • PV Module Rating Tolerance
  • Recommended Datasheet and Nameplate Information Formats for PV Modules
  • Standard to Certify the Accuracy of Inverter Meters
  • Definition of the Procedure for System Energy Rating
  • Review of FERC's Interconnection Screens
  • Rate Impact of Net Metering
  • Evolution of Net Metering
  • Potential Impacts of Advanced Metering Infrastructure on Renewable Energy Policy
  • Potential of AMI Data to Reduce the Technical Issues Related to Net Metering
  • PV Module Frame Grounding Requirements and Test Methods
  • Guidebook to the California State Fire Marshall PV Guidelines
If you are interested in providing input or reviewing draft reports on any of these topics, please contact Larry Sherwood.
Solar ABCs Requests Gap Analysis Input

The Solar ABCs will conduct a Gap Analysis to review the current state of the major codes and standards that bear on PV and to identify major gaps or needs that exist and are not being addressed in current work on codes and standards.  The Solar ABCs will collect input from all stakeholders on these gaps or needs and prioritize them into a cohesive outline for the development of the Solar ABCs Annual Work Plan for future years.

Click here for a document summarizing the current Solar ABCs activities.  We ask for your input on which activities the Solar ABCs should focus is resources for the next two years.  Send your suggestions to Larry Sherwood by October 1, 2009.
