Call attention to your business with a stand-out press release.

Working on a new production? Is it of topical

interest with a twist? Then you have the making
of a successful online press release, an effective, free publicity tool. Follow these six simple tips and you too will create a newsworthy, stand-out press release that assures publication.

1. Grab 'em from the get-go.

Make your company or agency jump off the page. A snappy headline demands attention. "Dog bites mailman" isn't news, but "Mailman bites dog" is. Interesting content + clarity + creativity = success.

2. The facts, just the facts.

A newsletter must include the five Ws: who, what, when, where and why. And maybe how....

FIVE PRINCIPLES OF PAINLESS MINGLING

Anne Schwab

Even for those of us in the field of communications, entering a room full of people we have never met can be daunting. I remember many business and social gatherings when I unceremoniously signed in, made a beeline for the food table and mused, "Just how long must I be here?"

Clark Gable  "Must?" It took me years to realize, "I want to be here." Conventions, special events, company functions, parties--this is where business and friendships form and flourish. Would we better advance our careers sitting home watching, Sex and the City? If your answer is like mine, "of course not," read on to learn Five Principles of Painless Mingling.

Most people you meet are just as nervous as you are. Even people like me who appear totally outgoing and self confident sometimes have trouble initiating a conversation. Truth be known, I am an introverted extrovert! And it helps to know that others in the room are occasionally as shy or uncomfortable as I am.

Break away from the regular guys. There's a natural tendency to gravitate toward those we already know. We feel safe, secure in their company. Time to step out of that comfort zone!

Look for an interesting face in the crowd.
Fear of rejection often prevents us from approaching strangers. Instead of focusing on ourselves, focus on another person. Take note of something interesting about them--a warm open face,
a friendly smile, a great wardrobe. Then approach them with a smile and a conversation opener, "What a handsome outfit."

Be genuinely interested. Ask questions about the person to whom you've introduced yourself. Where they live, what kind of work they do, where they went on their last vacation. It's easy to recognize real interest so concentrate on their answers. Find out what you have in common, professionally and personally and, if appropriate, exchange business cards.

Move on.
Then wrap up your conversation, perhaps agree to speak in the future and approach the next interesting face.

The more events I attend and the more I practice Five Principles of Painless  Mingling, the more I say,

 "I want to be here!"
