Update

Dear ,

Welcome to the Summer 2010 issue of NSP Update.  This edition includes information about how NSP can help when your executive director decides to leave, and the new healthcare tax credit for nonprofits.  We also ask for your help in sending us your strategies for managing during the recession.  We will compile your ideas (anonymously, if you prefer) and then share them with you.

We hope you find this issue helpful.  As always, we welcome your feedback.  Let us know what you think by contacting us at nsp@hfpg.org or 860-548-1888.

Your Executive Director is Getting Ready to Leave - Is Your Organization Ready?

Did you know:

  • 71% of executive directors plan to leave their current positions within five years
  • 34% of organizations have had two or more executive directors in the past five years
  • 88% of nonprofits have no succession plan.
As a result of the executive director's departure, there can be a disruption of service to clients, apprehension among staff, loss of mission focus during the transition, or a break in funding.  Read more here.
Creative Ways to Manage During an Economic Downturn - Share Your Story!

Lately we've heard stories of how nonprofits are making changes and doing business differently in response to changes in the economy and environment.  Some agencies are creating partnerships and alliances to maximize resources and tap new perspectives, while others are developing creative ways to share staff positions.  We believe that other nonprofits as well as the Hartford Foundation could learn from your approaches.  Therefore, we ask that you e-mail us any interesting or creative strategies you've employed to help you manage through these challenging economic times.  We, in turn, will compile your great ideas and share them with all of you.  You may choose to identify your organization or remain anonymous if you prefer.  Simply email us at nsp@hfpg.org.  Thank you!
