NSP Announces Spring Workshop Series
Expressly for Executive Directors and Board Leaders

(Please share these dates with your board members now)

Now more than ever, nonprofits need strong boards and management, realistic and flexible plans, solid financial systems and up-to-date technology.  Organizations with a strong organizational foundation will be best positioned to survive these times.  This spring we are pleased to continue our popular workshop series for nonprofit executive directors and board leaders.  If you would like to speak to the NSP staff about other services that can help you build a stronger organization, please contact us.

We're sending you this workshop information so that you can plan ahead.  Please don't RSVP at this time.  Invitations will be sent to executive directors five to six weeks prior to each session.  Remember that locations and times vary.  Come join your colleagues in Greater Hartford for useful information, networking and a free breakfast!

Working Across Generations: Defining the Future of Nonprofit Leadership
Thursday, June 3, 2010, 8:30 a.m. to Noon
Leadership change is happening in organizations across the country.  In the nonprofit sector, long-time leaders are planning what they will do next and wondering who will take their place, while younger leaders are looking for ways in which they can contribute.  Join Frances Kunreuther, author of Working Across Generations: Defining the Future of Nonprofit Leadership, for a discussion about the implications of generational shifts in leadership in the nonprofit sector, ways in which we can work together effectively in multigenerational settings, and how we can support the next generation of leaders in our own organizations.

Building Sustainability Using an Organizational Lifecycle Approach
Featuring Dr. Susan Kenny Stevens, author of Nonprofit Lifecycles: Stage-Based Wisdom for Nonprofit Capacity.
Wednesday, May 12, 2010,  8:00 to 11:30 a.m.

Dr. Stevens has adapted her message of using a lifecycles approach to building capacity to the current economic climate.  She stresses the importance of investing in your organization in order to achieve sustainability, discusses five common lifecycle challenges, and encourages organizations to analyze and understand their lifecycle stage in order to strategically target areas that need to be addressed.

Participants will learn how to self-diagnose their own capacity challenges, and how to understand and address five common lifecycle challenges including building strong board ownership, developing organizational "bench strength," and hiring effectively for lifecycle fit.

NSP Completes Annual Update of Consultant Directory

As a community resource for finding consultants, the Consultant Directory is one of the most visited pages on the Hartford Foundation's website, and may be accessed at www.sneconsultant.org.  In order to keep the information current for agencies in need of consulting assistance, we ask consultants to update their listings on an annual basis.  We encourage consultants to follow the instructions in the email sent to you and go into the Directory to update your listing, if you have not done so already.  If you require assistance, please contact Betsy Johnson at bjohnson@hfpg.org or 860-548-1888 x1041.

For other workshops available to nonprofits in the Hartford region and statewide, visit the Connecticut Association of Nonprofit's website at ctnonprofits.org/education

The Hartford Public Library provides free workshops for nonprofits.  A listing of workshops may be accessed at www.hplct.org/calendar.  The Library offers some of these workshops in partnership with the Hartford Foundation in order to better meet the needs of smaller agencies.
