Welcome back! We hope that you have had an interesting and restful summer break and that you are renewed for the new school year.
This summer CAFÉ had two awesome events! Our 8th Annual Leadership Conference was hosted by the Culinary Institute of America in San Antonio and its new format was a perfect fit for the attendees. We will be looking for next year’s event to include a full day of Educational Best Practices as well as a day of Industry Connections. Pictures can be seen of the event by going to our website link http://cafemeetingplace.com/2012-events/cafe-event-photo-galleries.html
In July, the Seattle Culinary Academy hosted a group from around the U.S. and shared its journey with the attendees towards a sustainable curriculum. The speakers and activities were informational and modeled for classroom use; the all-day trip to Skagit Valley was fantastic! The Science of Food
CAFÉ will be partnering with the Charlotte campus of Johnson & Wales University, October 19-21, to
host the first-ever workshop: “The Science of Food.”
Topics will range from research to nutrition; from modernist desserts to sous vide best practices. We will hear from chefs, from educators, and from food scientists.
To register for this event, please go to http://cafemeetingplace.com/2012-events/the-science-of-food.html Hotel rooms are limited (apparently there is a football game in town!), so please do not hesitate to reserve your room which is across the courtyard from the University.
This event will earn ACF continuing education hours and is open to both secondary and postsecondary instructors. We will begin on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. and conclude on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m.
What’s Your 20/20 Vision?
Are you working on a strategic plan for the Year 2020? CAFÉ will be inviting postsecondary Deans and Directors to a Retreat, February 23-24 in Chicago. This event will be limited to 50 attendees and is issues-driven. We will be looking at challenges and opportunities facing postsecondary leaders of programs and will have a featured futurist as our keynoter.
Watch for your invitation in the mail! Call the CAFÉ office with any questions.
We’re looking forward to working with you in 2013. As I enter my 27th year working with foodservice instructors around the U.S., I am even more energized and ready to design the programs that you need for the future. We are not a membership organization; nor do we offer certification programs. What CAFÉ does is continue to link the foodservice industry with the foodservice classrooms. Your feedback is always welcome. Please pass this message to your fellow teachers. They can subscriber from our home page at http://cafemeetingplace.com/subscription.html so that they will get their own weekly updates.
