Catherine (Marissa Trigg) is having a garage sale before she moves to Hawaii with her fiance Paul. Initially assumed to be just another customer, Susan (Atiqah Hasiholan) turns out to be the ex of Catherine's fiance, who has come to the house to pick up her belongings.

Film: Masala Mama (Singapore) Playing with: We Were Here, We Once Were Tide 11:00am, 15 May 2011 The 9-minute long production is about a comic-crazy boy who befriends an Indian convenience store owner, traditionally called a "mama" shop owner, and ends up having his own superhero-inspired adventure. The Indian mama shop owner is discernibly effeminate in his acting - something that was planned all along by the Director Kam. "The film is based largely on my childhood experiences," he explains. "I had a few homosexual friends when I was growing up, so that queer element makes the film more authentic." more info
Seminar: Climate Change and Climate Adaptation in Central Vietnam East-West Center Research Program Brown Bag Seminar Presented by Lam Thi Thu Suu John A. Burns Hall, Room 3012 1601 East-West Road Honolulu, HI USA 12:00 - 1:00pm, 18 May 2011 Vietnam is one of the countries significantly affected by climate change and climate variability. According to climate change scenario officially approved by the Minister of Natural Resource and Environment, Vietnam in June 2006 (MONRE, 2009), the climate in many regions throughout the country will change dramatically. The presentation will mainly focus on adaptation efforts made in Vietnam in context of changing climate condition. more info

Film Series: Blissfully Thai Presented by Asia Society in association with Cineaste Asia Society and Museum 725 Park Avenue New York, NY USA 13 May - 17 June 2011 The Thai film industry is buzzing with excitement these days. The emergence of some of the world's most original cinematic voices since the late '90s, notably Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Pen-Ek Ratanaruang, and Wisit Sasanatieng, has put Thai cinema on the international map. This series presents works made since 2000 by six filmmakers, all born in the '60s and '70s, and provides New York audiences with a rare opportunity to sample a diverse group of films from Thailand. more info

Announcing the Renewal of the Journal Southeast Asian Studies The Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University, would like to announce the renewal of the website for its quarterly bilingual journal Southeast Asian Studies (SEAS). Published since 1963 SEAS reflects the center's principle of dedicated fieldwork based, multidisciplinary, and contemporary approaches toward research.
