Restoration Projects in Hanoi's Old Quarter: Analyzing the Urban Morphology Presentation by Nguyen Minh Trang, Architect Tokioka Room, Moore Hall 319 12:00pm - 2:00pm, 11 March 2011 The Old Quarter of Hanoi - the "36 Streets and Corporations" neighbourhood - is at the historic heart of this great trading city, dating back 1,000 years. The neighbourhood's architecture is in particular marked by three styles: traditional Vietnamese and Chinese constructions, French colonial architecture in the neo-classical style, and Art Deco. more info

The Doris Duke Theatre Honolulu, HI USA Festival dates: 19 -26 March 2011 Opening night reception: 6:00 - 7:30 pm, 19 March 2011 The Doris Duke Theatre gets its yearly dose of Pinoy flavor with the Third Annual Filipino Film Festival, featuring six new films from some of the Philippines' top filmmakers. Co-sponsored by PMAH Ohana Medical Missions, the festival is one of only four in the U.S. dedicated to Filipino film culture. more info

A rasa (Sanskrit for 'juice' or 'essence') denotes an essential mental state and is the dominant emotional theme of a work of art, or the primary feeling that is evoked in the person that views, reads or hears such a work. The concept of rasa is fundamental to many forms of Indian Arts including dance, music, musical theatre, cinema and literature. more info
From Long Ya Men to the Straits Settlement: Stories of the Straits of Singapore National Museum of Singapore Presentation by Ng Ching Huei 7:30pm, 23 March 2011
Long Ya Men or Dragon's Teeth Gate served as an important navigational landmark for ancient mariners before the rocks were blown up in the late 19th century to widen the entrance into what is now known as Keppel Harbour. Historically, this deep water passage leading into the harbor was significant as it carried the hopes, stories and dreams of our those who traveled and depended on the trading for their livelihoods. more info

Dr. Muhamad Ali is currently an assistant professor in the Dept. of Religious Studies at UC Riverside. His most recent works include the book Bridging Islam and the West: An Indonesian View (2009) and a journal article "'They are not All Alike': Indonesian Intellectuals' Perception of Judaism and Jews (2010). more info
