Around the World  Women's Rights and Religions in Malaysia Institute of Southeast Asian Studies Location: Singapore 10:30am - 12:00pm, 20 January 2011
Dr. Sharon Bong from Monash University will show how selected women's rights activists integrate rights and religions in Malaysia. In doing so, she revisits the impasse of women's rights as universal versus cultural relativism (i.e. Asian values) to offer ways of knowing and doing rights that bridge the disparity between the rhetoric and implementation of women's-human rights in global and local contexts. more info
Lifescapes- Southeast Asian Film Festival Payap University Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand Dates: 3 - 6 February
The Lifescapes Southeast Asian Film Festival is here to expose the stories of the region- to show what media, education, and NGO's in and around Northern Thailand and the Mekong region are doing. We're doing it to raise awareness, inspire dialogue, and maybe even evoke change. more info
 Indonesia - Land of Dance and Dragon Singapore Philatelic Museum Location: Singapore Dates: Exhibition through 4 March 2011 Special Performance every hour: 11am - 4pm, 4 February
Land of Dance and Dragon explores the diverse beauty of Indonesia. Besides the extensive selection of indigenous flora and fauna, the archipelago offers a rich source of living traditions. In conjunction with exhibition on 4 February a different Javanese dance will be featured every hour by Garrett Kam and Neomi Ogo, who were both trained in Yogyakarta at the dance schools at Pujokusuman. more info

International Field Study Program (IFSP) - Indonesia Center for Global Field Study University of Washington Location: Tinjil Island, West Java, Indonesia Deadline: 25 February 2011
IFSP-Indonesia is an interdisciplinary educational program established in 1995 in collaboration with the Primate Research Center at Bogor Agricultural University, Indonesia. The program is designed to provide field-based educational, training, and research opportunities for students interested in Conservation Biology, Animal Behavior, Primatology, Environmental Science, and Global Health.more info

Alumni Spotlight  Dr. Muhamad Ali, (Ph.D. History, Islam, Southeast Asia UHM 2007)
Dr. Muhamad Ali is currently an assistant professor in the Dept. of Religious Studies at UC Riverside. His most recent works include the book Bridging Islam and the West: An Indonesian View (2009) and a journal article "'They are not All Alike': Indonesian Intellectuals' Perception of Judaism and Jews (2010). more info
