Teaching Assistantships In Asian Studies (Two Positions)

The TAs will assist instructors in undergraduate Asian Studies courses and will serve as principal organizers for the 2012 SPAS Graduate Student Conference. A Village Called VersaillesVersailles

Since the 1970s, Vietnamese refugees have been settling in the isolated eastern New Orleans community of Versailles. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the people of this tight-knit neighborhood returned and rebuilt before any other flooded district only to have their homes threatened by a new government-imposed toxic landfill just two miles away. The film recounts how a group of dedicated people turned devastation into a catalyst for change. more info

The Advanced Filipino Abroad Program just completed its 19th program. To date, AFAP has trained 208 participants (since 1991). We are constantly looking for innovative ways to increase the proficiency in Filipino of the AFAP students. Please urge your students to apply to our next program (Summer 2011). 2011 may be our last program. more info


Balinese Dance and Gamelan Ensemble

Khmer Language and Culture Study Program

The Advanced Study of Khmer (ASK), Summer Abroad Program is an intensive eight-week training in Khmer language-culture. This program with one week home-stays in rural of Cambodia provides third year Khmer students with a one-of-a kind opportunity. more info

This program is designed to provide intensive instruction in Vietnamese for students at the advanced or advanced intermediate level, and is considered to be the equivalent to a full year's academic work. The program focuses on language acquisition and consists of a structured academic program of four hours of language instruction every morning and optional individualized tutoring sessions in the afternoon. more info

New Beginnings - Transformations in Post-Disaster and Post-Conflict Region
3rd International Conference of Aceh and Indian Ocean Studies (ICAIOS)
Location: Banda Aceh, Indonesia
Conference dates: 25 - 26 May 2011

The second ICAIOS conference assessed the situation in Aceh four years after the tsunami and the peace agreement. Comparisons were made between Aceh and other conflict regions in Asia.
