Message from Lontar

In Indonesia, October 28 is "Hari Sumpah Pemuda"-Youth Pledge Day. On that date in 1987, Lontar also came into being.

In celebration of these twin events, Lontar would like to announce several exciting new ventures. Directly on the horizon is the launching of The Lontar Anthology of Indonesian Drama. Further afield are the establishment of a digital library and the launching of Lontar's Modern Library of Indonesia series. Work has also begun on what will be the most complete volume-or volumes-of modern Indonesian poetry in translation. (A similar volume or volumes on short fiction is also in the planning.)

I would like to express my fervent thanks to all donors, both large and small, for the support and assistance they have provided to Lontar during its first twenty-two years.

Until next month, I am yours sincerely,

John McGlynn
Chairman, Board of Trustees, Lontar
