Meet our New Staff

The Center is pleased to e-introduce the newest members of the CSEAS family:

Ronald Gilliam
is currently a Doctoral student in Asian Theatre at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and a Graduate Degree Fellow of the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. He previously received his MA from the department of Performance Studies at New York University and his BA in Theatre and Chinese Language from Butler University. His current academic research examines identity expressed through performance in Chinese Central Asia while his previous research focused on the politics and commodification of touring culture as performance.


Theresa Christine R. Navarro
is a Pinay arts organizer with an interest in the function of art in, through and with communities of difference.  She holds degrees in History and Comparative Ethnic Studies from the University of California, Riverside and has collaborated with various multimedia arts organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area, Honolulu and across the country.  She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in American Studies and graduate certificate in Museum Studies at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. 
Open Positions & Fellowships

2009-10 Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship in Southeast Asia

The Center for Southeast Asian Studies is pleased to announce that another Southeast Asian language FLAS (Foreign Language and Area Studies) fellowship has become available for this academic year.  Application and eligibility criteria available on the CSEAS site.

Jacob K. Javits (JKJ) Fellowship Program


The purpose of the Jacob K. Javits (JKJ)
Fellowship Program is to award fellowships to eligibl.e students of superior ability, selected on the basis of demonstrated achievement, financial need, and exceptional promise, to undertake graduate study in specific fields in the arts, humanities, and social sciences leading to a doctoral degree or to a master's degree in those fields in which the master's degree is the terminal highest degree awarded to the selected field of study at accredited institutions of higher education.

The Cultural Change and Political Violence Project (CCPV ) at UH is currently looking to hire students with area experience in any of the following regions: Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, Europe, Central Asia and Southeast Asia. 

Job description
:
Assist with data collection tasks in ethnicity project. Responsible for collecting demographic, economic and geographic data. Knowledge of a specific country/region and some research experience is required.

Student will work semi-independently and attend weekly group meetings to discuss research findings. Graduate students are preferred but undergrads are welcome to apply. Apply with resume to Professor Ilan Noy.
