Girl Scout STEM Day featuring St. George Observatory is Oct. 6

Join us in Donner, LA and enjoy an afternoon/evening full of science experiments, technology, and engineering marvels as we explore our natural world and search the skies for what lies beyond! You'll use telescopes, microscopes, and plenty of hands-on experiments for everyone, including building and launching your own rocket. Other participating organizations include LIGO, SciPort, Society of Women Engineers, and much more!

Cost is $15 per child and $5 per adult (children 4 and under and adults 65 and older are free) with tickets available for purchase in the council shops or online at http://shop.gsle.org. Contact Kevin Shipp for 504-733-8220, ext. 2243 for more information.

Shop for a Cause at Macy's on August 25

Girl Scouts Louisiana East is partnering with Macy's to Shop for a Cause on Saturday, August 25! Purchase a Shopping Pass for $5 from either Council shop, beginning June 4, to receive 25% off ALL DAY on regular, sale, and clearance items and save 10% on electrics/electronics, furniture, mattresses, and rugs/floor coverings in every Macy's store and online at www.macys.com.  

 

If you would like to sell these passes at your service unit meetings, please contact Carrie Thomas at 504-733-8220, ext. 2245. Sell them to your friends and family members or purchase one for yourself. Please do not give them away!

 Get ready for Fall Product Program

 

patchPlan now to participate in the Fall Product Sale of nuts, candy, and magazines, October 5-28, and earn start-up money for your troop! Girl Scouts will need to be registered for the new membership year by September 14, in order to participate. The Service Unit Fall Product Sale Adult Learning Session is Saturday, September 15, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in LaPlace. Click here to register.  There are also Troop Fall Product Sale Learning Sessions on September 25 and 27 who cannot attend the Service Unit training, but want to know more about the sale.

 

This year's theme is What Can a Girl Do: Get Connected! Check out the product sale incentives, as  well as the online activities available for girls.

 

The Fall Product Sale is a friends and family sale (nuts and candy only $5 - $7) with all orders prepaid so the troop receives the proceeds immediately. Product is delivered by the girls in November 13-20.

 September Patch of the Month activity
patch nutBack by popular demand, the September Patch of the Month puzzle or activity has been uploaded to the website along with the answers. This month's activity relates to the fall product program. Leaders tell us this monthly activity is fun for girls to do as they wait for others to arrive at the troop meeting, etc. 
 Save the date for our Centennial Luncheon

 

Join us on Friday, November 2, at 12 p.m. as we celebrate Girl Scouting's Centennial at our fundraising luncheon being held at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans. Tickets are $100 each, and sponsors include Lakelawn Metairie Funeral Homes & Cemeteries and Little Brownie Bakers. Expect to be inspired, at this heart-warming culmination of a year of celebration. LSU TailgateReady for some LSU Tiger football? Join LSU student-athletes for a tailgate and autograph session on Saturday, September 15, followed by the LSU-Idaho football game! Tailgate registration is $7 each (includes food/drink) and does not include the $25 football ticket group rate. Football tickets are available at a special $25 per member rate for Girl Scout troops and families, but tickets are limited, and available on a first come, first serve basis! Football ticket purchase is not required for the tailgating event (and vice versa). Register for the tailgate by completing the council's program event registration form and sending it in with payment. Football tickets can be purchased through LSUtix.net. Third Geek Squad Summer Academy added

Girls, ages 9 -14, are invited to a Geek Squad Summer Academy on Saturday, Sept. 8 - Sunday, Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Iberville Math, Science & Arts Academy-West in Plaquemine. This two-day academy teaches girls how to: create digital photo masterpieces; use the internet to connect with friends; build a computer from basic parts; compose their own song; and direct their own video.
