Summer Service Hours for Girl Scout Teens | |
Each summer we have limited opportunities available for our Girl Scout Cadettes - Ambassadors. We are looking for teens to help, starting June 4 to August 3. There are various opportunities at each office that may last several days to only a few hours.
We receive more last minute request than we are able to fill so please send request no later than May 18.
If you know a teen that needs service hours for either a Girl Scout activity or school have them contact Yvette Hairston at yhairston@gsle.org, subject line "Teen Volunteer." |

Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans & Clear Channel Radio present Teen Peace Summit 2012 | |
The Teen Peace Summit on May 19 focuses on positive messages, featuring national and local musical guests and speakers on the topics of crime prevention and conflict resolution, helping students to see how they can make a difference in reducing crime and promoting peace in our communities. Submit your photos for Connections newsletter by May 4 | |
Photos for the summer issue of the GSLE Connections newsletter are being accepted through May 4. Email digital photos as jpeg attachments to Marianne Addy at maddy@gsle.org with a brief blurb on what's occurring in the photo, the troop number and town, along with those in the photo identified, left to right (IDs may or may not be used, dependent on space), as well as your contact information. Prints may also be mailed to the New Orleans council office, but will not be returned. Please do not email links to online photo albums - it's better for you to select your favorites. |

Summer Camp- Summer vacation is just a few short weeks away, and we still have a few spaces available in our summer resident camps. From Camp Marydale's horse camps to Camp Whispering Pines rock wall and zip line, our campers are bound to have an unforgettable summer vacation. Make your plans today to have the outdoor adventure of your summer.
Swimming-Girl Scouts Louisiana East, together with the YMCA of the Capital Area, are hosting water safety classes.SPLASH - Learn to Swim program will be held May 21-24, at four YMCA locations in Baton Rouge.These classes will give girls an introduction to water safety, along with their parent, and once complete, girls will be eligible for discounted swimming lessons at their local YMCA. Staycations- Families and friends are invited to Camp Covington and Camp Whispering Pines for one of inaugural Staycations. During staycation weeks, you can bring the family or your friends for a local vacation. The Northshore is brimming with activities, not to mention our camps are full of pretty cool stuff. Staff is on site to help you make the most of your summer staycation. Click here for more.
Travel- Calling girls 12-17, to pack your bags and hit the roads, rails and trails with us this summer. We have awesome trips planned throughout the summer. On these trips we will whitewater raft, look for diamonds, and take a train trip. Check out the website to find out the details and register for your summer get-away.
Tennis Anyone? Girls, ages 6 to 14, are invited to discover the world of tennis in the council's newest workshop, in partnership with the United States Tennis Association, being held various Saturdays in June and July in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Slidell, Luling, and Thibodaux. Join us on Saturday, May 12 at the council's annual adult recognition event that honors volunteers and community collaborators for their outstanding work and devotion to Girl Scouts.The event will be held at the Clarion Inn Conference Center in Gonzales from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Food and refreshments will be served from 9:30 to 10 during check-in. To register for the event download the registration form. Deadline to register is May 4. | Troop Paperwork Audit |
On June 1 the end of the year troop leader paperwork is due to your service unit team. Each troop leader is responsible to complete and turn in the following: final troop budget, updated troop outing form with community service hours, bank account verification and looking ahead form. Due to the end of the year activities/schedules service unit teams may schedule an earlier due date than June 1. |
| Covington Girl Scouts take action with Camp Covington project | Covington Service Unit 380 is raising money for its 100th Anniversary Take Action project: building steps down to the bank of the Bogue Falaya River at Camp Covington, so everyone, regardless of their physical ability, has easier access to the river. Much of the work is being done pro bono, but the service unit must still raise between $4,000 - $5,000. Two fundraisers have been scheduled so far: Scouting for Supper on Tuesday, May 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. at three Covington Wendy's, 2700 N. Highway 190, 71 Park Place (by Home Depot), and 69340 Hwy. 21 (by Target), with 10 percent of proceeds going to the Camp Covington project, and a Saturday, May 5 fundraiser from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Rainbow Car Wash, 653 N. Hwy. 190 in Covington with $1 from each car going to the Take Action project. Donations may also be made to Camp Covington on the council's online donation site here. |

This is the perfect Father's Day gift for those Girl Scout dads! You'll get to play nine holes of golf on a beautiful course at Stonebridge on the westbank of New Orleans. It's just $120 for a twosome, with food and adult beverages provided. Miller Lite and Coors are golf tournament sponsors, and additional tournament sponsors are needed. |
