Introducing our "Pixie List" - the council's new online classified listings!

The Pixie List at http://pixielist.gsle.org is an online "classified" listing for community members, Girl Scouts, parents, and volunteers in our 23-parish jurisdiction. It gives girls (with adult supervision) and adults the ability to post "ads" as an easy way to offer volunteer services, find help, get or offer supplies for a Girl Scout project, promote an event, find location space for troop meetings, special events, etc.!

Photos needed for newsletters

Time to begin planning your year with annual Program Pathways

Program PathwaysProgram Pathways (formerly Program Power), the annual program and adult learning guide for troop leaders and assistant leaders, is now available online. It's also at the printer and will be mailed to registered 01s and 02s shortly, but in the meantime you can download it to your computer. Take a look at all of the great program and adult learning opportunities available as we celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouting!

The website events calendar is also updated (and in fact there are already events on the calendar not included in Program Pathways), so check back often, as you and your girls plan your Girl Scout year!

A special thank you to our Program Pathway sponsors who helped may this publication possible. We're working on a sponsor page with links to our sponsors' websites, and will share this page via social media, website, and email shortly.

September Patch of the Month activity

September 2011 patchBack by popular demand, the September Patch of the Month puzzle or activity has been uploaded to the website along with the answers. Leaders tell us this monthly activity is fun for girls to do as they wait for others to arrive at the troop meeting, etc.

100th Anniversary Art Contest

Girl Scouts Louisiana East, in partnership with the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, is holding a 100th Anniversary Art Contest for Girl Scouts, ages 5 to 17. Share artistically what it means to be a Girl Scout today, and/or reflecting 100 years of Girl Scouting, and your artwork could be exhibited at the Ogden Museum on January 5, 2012!

Winners will be chosen in three categories: ages 5-8, 9-12, and 13-17. From these, one overall "best of show" will be selected. The winners will be chosen by a panel of artists, educators, and others. All artwork must adhere to the guidelines. Click here for entry requirements!

Get ready for Fall Product program

Plan now to participate in the Fall Product Sale of nuts, candy, and magazines, September 30- October 23, and earn start-up money for your troop! Girl Scouts will need to be registered for the new membership year by September 16, in order to participate. The Service Unit Fall Product Sale Adult Learning is Saturday, September 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in LaPlace. Click here to register.

This year's theme is Investing in Today = Success for Tomorrow. Check out the product sale incentives, as  well as the online activities available for girls.

The Fall Product Sale is a friends and family sale (nuts and candy only $5 - $7) with all orders prepaid so the troop receives the proceeds immediately. Product is delivered by the girls in mid November.

The Annual Family Giving Campaign is underway!

Did you know that none of the annual $12 membership fee remains with the council locally? The Annual Family Giving Campaign is your opportunity to make a financial contribution directly benefiting our girls. This council-wide request for financial contributions from family and friends, helps to underwrite the cost of providing the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to every girl member of our council (it costs us $204 per girl).

This year's Annual Family Giving Campaign goal is nearly $57,000 and to reach this goal, we recommend each service unit hold a fundraising event. At S.U. meetings, discuss what type of event your girls would enjoy. Example events include: Saints/LSU party, Pajama Party, Me and My Best Gal Tea, Me and My Pal Dance, Fish Fry, Hoe Down, Halloween Costume Party, Birthday Party for Juliette, Family Picnic, or a local Scouting for Supper - NEW! Questions regarding the Annual Family Giving Campaign, contact Carrie Thomas at 504-355-5885.

Service Unit Incentives

If your service unit makes its goal by Dec. 16, 2011, the service unit will be recognized at the annual Adult Recognition event, Connections newsletter and website, as well as meet fund development criteria of the President's Award. The S.U. will also receive EITHER a free service unit encampment* at CWP or Camp Covington (expires December 2012) OR 10 percent of the amount donated, back in Donor Dollars that can be used in the Council Shops. *Camp Fees will be waived. All other fees apply, i.e. activity and facilitator fees, food, etc.
