New to social media? Be sure to read the council's social media guidelines as well as the council's online photo usage guidelines for social media and websites.

Show me the Smart Money!
With youth controlling more than $172 billion in spending, and one in three carrying a credit card, we must ensure that all youth - including girls - have the information they need to properly save, spend, budget, and invest.
Girl Scouts aged 12-17 are invited to attend two workshop sessions  Nov. 6 and 13 designed especially for them by the Tulane School of Business. They'll experience real world financial challenges and learn how to navigate them in fun and interactive ways! They'll gain the skills and confidence to earn, manage, spend, save and invest their money wisely with hands-on activities. Register now!  Click here for more information.

Girl Scouts to celebrate founder's 150th birthday at fall fundraising luncheon

Girl Scout volunteers, alumnae, and friends of Girl Scouting are invited to attend Girl Scout Louisiana East's fall fundraising luncheon on Wednesday, November 3, from 12 to 1 p.m. with a meet and greet at 11:30 a.m. at the Audubon Tea Room in New Orleans. Luncheon sponsors are Lakelawn Metairie Funeral Home and Cemeteries, Little Brownie Bakers, Textron Marine & Land Systems, Total Graphics, Inc., and Whitney Bank.  Louisiana State Representative Helena Moreno of New Orleans will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies.

With the luncheon scheduled a few days after founder Juliette Gordon Low's 150th birthday, Girl Scouts will celebrate Low's vision for the Girl Scout Movement and her willingness to blaze new trails. Low was born in Savannah, Ga, on October 31, 1860 and founded the Girl Scouts in 1912.

Table captains (those who host a table at the luncheon made up of their friends) as well as additional luncheon sponsors are needed. Please contact Cerise McClendon at (800) 644-7571, ext. 2222 for additional information or if you would like to attend. You may also RSVP online. Suggested minimum donation for the luncheon is $50.

The Fall Product Sale begins Friday!

The council's Fall Product Sale of nuts, candy, and magazines, begins Friday, October 1 - Sunday, October 24!  Alisha Moore, product sales director, encourages girls to begin the QSP magazine email option at the beginning of the sale so it works for you through the entire sale.

What is the QSP Program?

QSP, a division of Time Inc, sponsors a Girl Scout money earning program as part of the fall product sale that promotes literacy through the sale of magazine subscriptions and books. Troops receive 10% of the price of each magazine sold (and 15% for online sales). All orders are backed by a guarantee of service by QSP. Customers do not become part of a mailing list through QSP. Any new magazine subscriptions will start 12 - 14 weeks after the orders are processed in November.

Over 1,000 magazines are offered this year, including dozens of children's magazines. Some magazine subscriptions offer a free gift or a second year's subscription for free. Click here to order magazines online!  (Proceeds from online orders will benefit the Girl Scouts Louisiana East.) Books round out the vast array of choices.

How it works:

Ordering/Renewing your family and friends' favorite magazines

Your Girl Scout contacts family and friends asking them to renew or subscribe to their favorite magazines. She also has the option to contact family and friends via email through QSP's online magazine ordering system. Your Girl Scout troop will earn Troop/Group proceeds and each girl will receive recognitions for each subscription purchased. If she sends 12 emails she'll receive the "Capture Your Dream" patch. Sell three magazines and she'll earn the "Design Your Future" patch.

Friendly Referrals using Address Adventure Booklet

Your Girl Scout can ask family and friends living in other communities to help support Girl Scouts by completing the special referral coupons in the mail-out address booklets. QSP will mail information which shows them how to purchase their favorite publications at the same low prices. Your Girl Scout will earn the "Create an Opportunity" patch for completing one address booklet. The Troop/Group will earn $2 per address booklet (Maximum one booklet per girl.) Your friends and family members will receive two mailings. QSP does not database these addresses, they simply make a copy of the referral coupon. Even if the person orders from the first mailing, they will receive a second mailing.

Family Campaign off to a good start

Did you know it costs the council $223 per girl to see that each girl receives the Girl Scout Leadership Experience?  Yet the membership fee is only $12 and none of it remains within the council?!  This is why we encourage families and friends of Girl Scouts to make a financial contribution through our Annual Family Giving Campaign. As a member of our Girl Scout family, you know how important Girl Scouting is to girls, their families, and the community!

We are off to a great start towards reaching our Annual Family Giving Campaign goal. Check out the Service Unit Leader Board for those S.U.s who have taken the early lead in their Region with the highest percentage towards their goal. Many Service Units have events planned in order to reach their campaign goal by December 22 and achieve the Service Unit encampment at Camp Whispering Pines! Which Service Unit will be on the Leader Board next?

Congratulations to Service Unit 450 Algiers for exceeding their campaign goal. They are the first Service Unit to receive the free Service Unit encampment at Camp Whispering Pines. Great Job! Let's see how far you can exceed your goal!

You don't have to wait to be asked!  Donate to the Girl Scouts by including a donation with your daughter's registration form, by printing out the campaign pledge form, or by donating online on our website (just be sure to include troop and service unit info so service unit receives credit). If you have any questions regarding the Annual Family Giving Campaign, please contact Carrie Thomas at 504-355-5885.
