The Opportunity:$150.00 annual fee
Benefits:Recognition in our publications and on our web site, a commemorative MHP hat, invitations to special events at the park, site tours of Monterey Horse Park, a chance to see the dream coming alive, and the joy of knowing you are among the first to support the Monterey Horse Park.
To join the Founding Friend Program, please go to www.montereyhorsepark and click on the membership page. You may register and pay on line through our contributions program NETWORK FOR GOOD or print out the application and return to the address listed.
In addition, please distribute to your friends and colleagues. We are working to expand the Founding Friend program and demonstrate to elected officials, equine advocates, open space supporters and potential contributors, that there is a broad base of support for the Monterey Horse Park.

MHP Announces Bold New Site Plans
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For the last several months, a review of the Monterey Horse Park plan has been in the works. The photo to the left shows Chairman Doc Etienne, Secretary Jim Hendrick, Director Jay Huber listening intently as Planning Committee Chair Steve Chidester explains.
At the April meeting, the Board approved the relocation of the facility to a different portion of the MHP site. The benefits of this plan are outlined below:
1) The new plan dramatically reduces the estimated cost to build the startup facility, which will still be capable of hosting all F.E.I. show disciplines. Cost is now estimated at $6 Million, including design, entitlements and construction. The substantial reduction in cost projection is due to less grading and utility extensions as well as designing the plan so it can make use of existing roads until the new East Side road is completed (by the County - now in design stages). 2) The new plan provides the fastest possible start up time for the new facility, estimated 2011, as soon as the UXO cleanup crews are off the site. 3) The new plan eliminates program elements no longer needed in show venues such as the eventing steeplechase course and adds space for the latest trends we are seeing nationwide in all venues, including more competition and warm-up arenas, more stabling, bermed spectator areas, and ample competitor facilities such as showers and food courts. 4) The new plan will provide for a better, 4 star cross country course and ample spectator gallery space. 5) The new plan retains all the important original program elements, such as RV camping, space for a large indoor arena, ample vehicle and rig parking, employee housing, staging area for Endurance and NATRC, space for a visitor center and horse museum, space for vet and farrier clinic and dedicated western arenas with cattle area. 6) The new plan will substantially increase the preservation of natural habitat and oak forest stands, allowing much more of the beautiful natural forest environment to be integrated into the park. 7) The new plan will provide beautiful sites for our partners, including new partners Mountain Valley Equine Assisted Therapy and the Flag Foundation.
A line drawing of the new site plan will be included in the next issue and will be posted at www.montereyhorsepark.org.
