Greetings!
Welcome to our second edition of the Monterey Horse Park e-news.  Many of you have forwarded your copy to friends and fellow equestrian enthusiasts and we have increased our subscriber list.  If you do have a spam blocker, please make certain this e-news can get thru.  MHP has been busy this month - not only are we working on our "shovel in the ground" fundraising campaign, but we've organized our "docent" tours, participated in several weekends worth of activities and shows and presented a report to the County of Monterey.
Message from the Executive Director .... mhp logoWelcome to our second Monterey Horse Park e-news.  You are receiving this as you signed up on our web site at www.montereyhorsepark.org or you sent me an email.  Feel free to unsubscribe at any time..but also to send to friends.  We have been busy this month - not only are we working on on our "shovel in the ground" fundraising campaign, but we've organized our "docent" tours, participated in several weekends worth of equestrian activites and shows and presented a report to the County of Monterey.

We continue to be pleased at the increasing visbility of MHP - we want to be certain that the entire equestrian community knows about MHP and  has the opportunity to participate and support this once in a lifetime opportunity to preserve land for equestrian uses and to build an international center for competition, right here in California.

In fact, the most frequent question asked of us at our event booth is "When will you be open?" and "When can I bring my show/activity/event to MHP?" We welcome all kinds of support (including financial) and all kinds of volunteers.  Thanks in advance for your interest!

Watch for details of our new MHP membership program in next month's issue.

MHP Goes to Shady Oaks

On October 5 & 6, MHP board members traveled to Lodi to beautiful Shady Oaks for the annual CDE at Shady Oaks Farm ..Board members Jay Huber and Jim Hendick both participated in the driving event.  In addition, Anne Cribbs, Bob Garcia and Steve Chidester hosted a booth - thanks to Advisory Board Members Fritz and Phyllis Grupe who invited MHP and to Event Organizer Bonner Murphy who did a fabulous job directing this event. MHP brought maps and brochures and had a great time meeting members of the driving community who have been so supportive of the Monterey Horse Park.. and yes, there were lots of questions about "When will MHP be open? and "When can we have driving events there?"  And interesting comments about possible opportunities for second homes at the MHP site.

Dressage  In the Fog & Whoa! The Day of the Horse in Woodside

dressage in the fogThe following weekend - October 12 & 13 MHP Board members traveled to Whoa! - the Day of the Horse in Woodside and the 40th Annual California Dressage Society Championship Show at the Woodside Horse Park. Again, MHP hosted booths, talked to interested equestrians and met lots of potential supporters.
Board members Steve Chidester and Bob Garcia both rode their horses in the WHOA ride thru Woodside and Camille Penhoet, Anne Cribbs and Rose Eve Lewis "worked" the booth at the Dressage Show.  Camile did double duty - both participating in the show and working at the MHP booth.
Monterey Horse Park Begins Docent Tours of Land

steve and timThe best way to appreciate the opportunity we have before us to create the Monterey Horse Park is to visit the site.  Board members Steve Chidester, Tim Eastman and Bob Garcia have marked our site with PVC markers so that we can take interested parties to view the site on an organized basis.  Current plans, which must be coordinated with FORA and the County of Monterey, are to plan tours of the site on a monthly basis.  To enter requests, please contact info@montereyhorsepark.org, send your name, email contact and Saturday availablity.  Tours will be limited to 8 - 12 people at a time, weather permitting, on the first Saturday of each month, with the time of day to be dependent on the time of year.

Volunteers Needed Volunteers are warmly welcomed and appreciated! Here are some of the tasks - writing the enews, working on the special events committee, distributing information about MHP to your barn, equestrian organization or general public, media outreach in your community, "manning the booth" at various events, helping with mailings, computer and graphic skills.  Email info@montereyhorsepark.org for more details..and thanks in advance.
