Greetings!
Each of us must rededicate ourselves to serving the common good. We are a community. Our individual fates are linked; our futures intertwined; and if we act in that knowledge and in that spirit together, as the Bible says: "We can move mountains."
Jimmy Carter (Former President of the U.S.)

 | |
LCDC's Executive Director, Kim Jackson, Board Chair, Sheila Barber and Board Member Reverend Steve Spiller with golf outing attendees. |
LCDC and our Board of Directors would like to thank all who attended our Golf Outing on September 9, 2011. Because of your support, our 4th Annual Golf Outing "Swing for King" was a huge success. Your faithfulness and commitment to the mission of LCDC enables us to ensure that all Lawndale residents have access to affordable and quality housing.
The donations from the Golf Outing are dedicated to the launch of phase two of the MLK District. When completed,
the district will include retail space, a state-of-the-art job training center, the Dr. King Exhibit Center, a Peace Path and a number of beautification projects created to make the 16th Street Corridor a friendly and welcoming hub. Thanks again for partnering with us to rebuild North Lawndale and honor a Dream. |

He operates his State Farm office in North Lawndale, sits on the Advisory Board of Neighborhood Housing Services, the Neighborhood Recovery Initiative Committee at the Better Boys Foundation and partners with LCDC and Chicago Youth Centers to mentor, coach and empower our youth. Pastor Brooks of Harmony Community Church works with the 1600-1800 Block of Millard to start a Block Club |
Pastors act as leaders and mentors not only through church services, but the events, activities and projects they are involved in throughout the community. They are an important part of creating a healthy, safe community. For this reason, we are encouraging Pastors and churches in the neighborhood, to partner with residents on their blocks, to strategize and work to improve the quality of life in the community. Starting a project to clean up the block, plant flowers or discuss ways to help them feel safer, will make a difference. Any act of kindness can improve the life of a child, a friend, relative or neighbor.
If you would like more information about ways you can assist the residents that live near your church, please call Tameeka Christian at 773-762-8889x31. |
