Greetings Ladies;
Welcome to new subscribers. It always seems like I just penned last month's newsletter and it is time to write you all again. I am looking forward to your reservations for one of our upcoming trips and always like it when a former traveler joins me again for another tour. As you read this, I will be in England with a delightful mix of women travelers for our annual English Garden Tour. Wish you were here!
Walking in Nova Scotia

This trip is close to my heart. As some of you know, our family spends summers at our cottage in Nova Scotia. Your accommodations will be a luxe small hotel in the seaport of Halifax and a historical inn in the UNESCO village of Lunenburg. National Geographic Traveler annually publishes its rating of the 100 Best Historic Places in the World and I am happy to tell you that we travel to several. Our summer trip, Walking in Nova Scotia, visits Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here is what National Geo writes about Lunenburg, "Great example of a living-heritage community. Parks Canada's involvement has resulted, and will continue to result, in resources for preservation of many of the buildings and features. It is the best surviving example of the British colonial policy of imposing a model town design in Canada."

This is National Geo's fifth survey and evaluates the qualities that make a destination unique; measuring, "integrity of place". It is not a popularity contest, but rather an assessment of authenticity and stewardship.

When deciding on where to offer our trips for women travelers, authenticity is one of the key ingredients in my selection. There are many places that are popular and many fewer which have retained their character, charm and authenticity.

Travel Tips for Women

As I pack for our English Garden Tour, I am reminded of these travel tips which were in one of our archived newsletters.

  • Plan ahead so you can start your trip rested
  • Layout your clothes a few days ahead and then take half
  • Comfortable walking shoes vs. fashion, take both
  • Make an extra copy of your passport/itinerary to take with you
  • Begin to eat less and drink more water a few days ahead of travel
  • Pack toiletries in ziplocks and include aloe baby wipes
  • Be prepared with a few extra days of prescription medicines
  • When arriving if there is a time zone change, keep going and go to bed at local time. The next day you will be in sync and ready to explore
  • Bring some local currency and use ATM's upon arrival

Let go of all expectations and immerse yourself in the region. Savour the sights, sounds, smells and colorfulness wherever you may wander.

Bella Italia

Our Autumn trip to Italy is now scheduled for September 24- October 2, 2011. We will settle in Florence, visit Lucca, discover Pienza, Montalcino and Montepulciano. We will wind our way through Classico Chianti country amidst the pastoral landscapes, hilltowns and cobbled lanes arriving in Montalcino for a few days. We will visit the wonderful St. Antimo Abbey a National Treasure in Italy. Museums, architecture, art , food and history all weave a memorable journey on our 8 day Bella Italia tour. We will board the Eurostar for the short trip to Venice and our weekend to meander amidst the Venetian islands. If you have been to Italy, like me, you probably want to return again and again. If this is your first trip, don't wait any longer to experience Italy's indescribable spirit that is indeed La Dolce Vita.
