R Words -
Remembrance
November is a month of remembrance. In Canada, Veterans are remembered on Remembrance
Day. In America, we acknowledged
all those who served our country with recent Veteran's Day ceremonies. This week our American travelers
celebrate Thanksgiving which seems to me to be a celebration of remembering our
blessings. Families gather and, whether two or twenty two are around the table,
stories unfold. Tales are told of
those no longer with us. Traditional
recipes are often included in the festivities, handed down from one generation
to the next. Sweet remembering. In this month, I remember the travels
taken, the women I have met and want to say thank you to for the good times
traveling together. Wishing each
of you a joy filled Thanksgiving.

Yoga, Adventure and Pure
Bliss
This will be our fourth Yoga and Adventure trip to Dominica,
a pristine island in the West Indies. This is not your typical tourist Caribbean island ...
quite the opposite. We perch on
the Atlantic side of the island where an eco lodge described in the N.Y. Times
as "Rustic Luxe" provides natural beauty and comfort in an outstanding setting
for the week of Pure Bliss. We
will hike, walk, swim, and snorkel. There will be time to read, write, rest,
knit, relax, photograph, bird watch, and enjoy a Caribbean cooking class, learn
about local herbs and plants or just do nothing for an afternoon by the sea.
Pure Tropical Bliss
Your days are as active or leisurely as you wish. DAILY
SPA TREATMENTS. We include a daily
treatment of your choosing at the Spa du Soleil each day. You deserve it and we include them
because we know how good you will feel at the end of the week.
Women Making a Difference
An interesting and totally optional component
on this trip is a visit and perhaps a
little volunteering at The House of Hope. On my first trip to the
island, I asked the owner of our lodge if there was any local
organization
Serendipity Traveler could support. Yes indeed and hours later I was
introduced to The House of
Hope. We have continued our
support throughout the last three years and have watched a fledging
local
grassroots initiative work hard to build a home for children with
severe medical
challenges. The kids are thriving
thanks to the untiring love 24/7 of this caring native community. More
help is always welcome. You are welcome to join me on a visit to
The House of Hope if you like. If
not, that is perfectly fine as well. The choice is yours. On each
trip, some women have gotten involved and others have
not. We will have a chance to
volunteer some hours with the children if we wish and perhaps bring
some
supplies for the school kids too. Our
volunteering is only a small part of the whole Dominica experience and
yet will
be vividly and warmly remembered along with the awesome natives,
breathtaking
waterfalls, active hikes, lush tropical landscapes, our accommodations,
the
fresh food, and sleeping to the lullaby of the sea. I do hope you will
join me on a most exceptional trip this
winter.

Olympic Torch
A celebration of the human spirit. We happen to be in the UNESCO World Heritage village of
Lunenburg, Nova Scotia last week when the Olympic Torch was passing through. What a party! The town was buzzing, music playing, children singing, and pride
was everywhere. The event ended
with a spectacular fireworks display over the harbor as a light rain began to
fall. Timing was perfect. The sense of community from one coast of
Canada to the other was fun to be a part of. Some of you know we spend our summers in
Atlantic Canada and I offer a walking in Nova Scotia trip in July that takes
you to some of the lesser known places in this spectacular province. It's not too soon to begin planning your
2010 travels with us.
