Recipes
Handwritten in the author's pen, spattered, old, worn and more recent ones all with the names of favorite pies, sauces, cookies, breads, soups, and more conjure up heartfelt memories .

Some of my recipes go back a few generations to both of my grandmothers while most of
them come from my dear mother and assorted friends. I treasure this collection of memories now growing with the addition of my daughter's recipes.

Each one brings to me the time we shared a meal together, the laughter, the fun and the spirit of good times. When traveling we don't usually take time out of the day for long lunches, however we do savour the time spent in the evening for dinner together.
Laughter, stories of the trip unfolding and relishing the essence of a French Café, California Bistro, English Pub or New England Inn's dining room all add to our traveling experiences and like the recipe cards create another memory distinctly yours.

Tips for Traveling Well
  • Plan ahead so you can start your trip rested!
  • Layout your clothes a few days ahead and then take just half.
  • Comfortable walking shoes vs. fashion, take both!
  • Make an extra copy of your passport/itinerary to take with you.
  • Begin to eat less and drink more water a few days ahead of travel.
  • Pack toiletries in ziplocks and include aloe baby wipes.
  • Be prepared with a few extra days of prescription medicines.
  • When arriving if there is a time zone change, keep going and go to bed at local time. The next day you will be in sync and ready to explore..
  • Bring some local currency and use ATM's upon arrival.
  • A small journal is a fun way to record just a few words each day.

California Coast
One of my all time favorite regions of America is in California specifically the Monterey Peninsula, Carmel and Big Sur.
This late autumn trip begins in San Francisco where we experience the essence and vibrancy of the city by the bay. For a day we cross the Golden Gate towards Napa to explore wine country, visit vineyards, sip wines, and meander the wine region.  Mid week, we leave San Francisco and travel south to the majestic and pristine California Coast settling in one of America's favorite villages, Carmel by the Sea.  From there, we will experience the Monterey Peninsula and infamous Big Sur.  The days will be gentle with walks, shopping, museums, tours, wine and soaking in the west coast way of life.
The weather will be dry and clear a perfect time to visit this remarkable area of the country.

St-Germain-des-Prés
This is considered the most charming neighborhood in Paris. The French dream of living here. I like to stay here. Walking from here is easy to visit the known and lesser known gems that comprise Paris. Like most cities Paris requires walking to gather the essentials.
Museums, gardens, cafes's and history present and past are all on view here. The Jardin de Luxembourg is near and a luscious garden setting amidst the grand scale of buildings in the city center. One lesser known museum located in the 6th is The Musee Zadkine
where the garden, house, sculptors studio and artworks are nestled into a place apart from the city streetscapes. Ossip Zadkine lived and worked here from 1928 until his death in 1967.
Laudree's is known for macaroons the small round cakes, crisp on the outside, smooth and soft in the middle, are made every morning in Ladurée's "laboratory". With each new season, Ladurée pays tribute to this its most famous creation by creating a new flavour. Last autumn the flavor was jasmine mango and this spring the new flavor is bergamot. Tradtionally all these flavors are available year round in the macaroon collection.  Chocolate - Bitter Chocolate - Vanilla - Coffee - Rose - Pistachio - Raspberry - Blackcurrant Violet - Caramel with salted butter - Red Fruits - Orange Blossom - Liquorice - Lemon - Praline - Lemon Cedrat Chocolate - Bitter Chocolate - Vanilla - Coffee - Rose - Pistachio - Raspberry - Blackcurrant Violet - Caramel with salted butter - Red Fruit - Orange Blossom The latest Ladurée tea room is located in the heart of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés  and offers the Parisian and visitor sweet delights in elegant and traditional surroundings at 21 Rue Bonaparte. We will stop here when in Paris.
