International Women's Day - March 8
Saturday, March 8th is a celebration around the world of International Women's Day. On March 8, 1857, garment workers in New York City marched and picketed, demanding improved working conditions, a ten hour day and equal rights for women. Fifty one years later, on March 8 another march was held. In 1910, German socialist, Clara Zetkin proposed March 8 as International Women's Day to commemorate the U.S. demonstrations and honor working women the world over. It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions; whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political. It is an occasion for looking back on past struggles and accomplishments and, more importantly, for looking ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women. In 1975, during International Women's Year, the United Nations began celebrating March 8th as International Women's Day. Two years later, in December 1977, the General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming a United Nations Day for Women's Rights and International Peace to be observed on any day of the year by Member States in accordance with their historical and national traditions. For the United Nations, International Women's Day has been observed on March 8th since 1975. The Day is traditionally marked with a message from the Secretary-General. This year, International Women's Day will be observed at the U.N. on March 6th. The celebration will have an intense focus on financing for gender equality at the country level.

As part of the Serendipity Traveler Weekends for Women Travelers series, we are traveling to Paris on Labor Day weekend. The trip will Depart on Thursday, August 28th and return on Tuesday September 2nd. We will experience the charms and essence of Paris. When you're in Paris, you'll want to indulge in the Parisian habit of sitting in a side-walk café like Rue Cler. or stopping at Paris Chocolatier, Michel Chardum, who is known for producing some of the finest chocolates every day in his doll-sized workshop, known in French, as a laboratoire. He sells about all of the 600 lbs he makes fresh each day. Paris chocolates from Michel Chaudun, 149 rue de l'Université, 7th, 01 47 53 74 40. Markets abound in Paris and we will do as the Parisians do and stroll the markets on Saturday morning, gathering gourmet delicacies to savour for lunch in the Luxembourg Gardens on our way to exploring the streets, museums, cathedrals and sights of Paris in the afternoon. Our Paris trip will be on the Serendipity Traveler website soon!

Mothers and Daughter's I had a call this week for one of our trips for a mother and daughter to celebrate the daughter's 40th birthday. What fun! All of our trips are planned that no matter what the age or healthy activity level, each traveler can engage with what feels comfortable. Our English Gardens trip has the reverse happening with a daughter treating her mother for her mother's 75th birthday. When these events occur, I am happy to play a part in the women's memorable life events. Working to handpick the lodging, the dining, the places to stop and visit, I weave my heart into each journey. We are small, dedicated and growing! If you want to make a life event special with travel memories. ......Call us!

California Wine country
Not that far North of San Francisco over the golden gate bridge is Wine Country. Most folks have heard of Napa and Sonoma. We prefer Sonoma... less touristy, wonderful tastings and a fun place to wind your way off the beaten track a bit to end up at a winery. The California sun shining, the views of the vineyards, a glass to sample and life is good! In fact, I would like to say life is extraordinary. Come along on one of our California trips and discover San Francisco, wine country and the Big Sur Coast. Our California trip is a gem.

Inspiration
Lent, an ancient word for springtime, a glorious time of recreated life and wonder. Trees growing silently and blessed buds shedding their protective layers opening to untouched blossoms dancing in the murmur of life. We open our hearts and embrace the sacred mystery, wonder and essence of each moment at this time of joyful renewal. |
