Joey Barnes' New EP "Change" Benefits Children in Kenya
|
Joey Barnes, drummer for
award-winning rock band Daughtry, has
released a solo EP aptly entitled "Change":
an inspiring musical reflection of the philanthropic view of the artist and his
experiences during his recent trip to Africa during "Idol Gives Back" with the
ONE Organization. Humbled by his experience, Joey decided that a substantial portion
from "Change" would go to help children in Africa, believing that the
"inspiration should be the beneficiary." The gracious rockstar and his label, Nascent Republic Records, have named NextAid the
beneficiary, with funds going towards the
Kawangware Vision Center in Kenya. Joey was introduced to NextAid through his partnership with Planetwize, a new media startup
changing the world one music download at a time. A percentage of the proceeds
from the EP, as well as, full proceeds from individual songs "Mercy" and "These
Voices," will benefit NextAid and the Kawangware Vision Center. "Change" has already gained attention, with
recognition of the EP on VH1's Top Twenty Countdown shortly after its release. The solo project is one that Joey
holds close to his heart, stating that,
"the five songs on 'Change' started as thoughts in my head while on that trip
to Africa, which evolved into bodies of music; with the lyrics being the last
to be added. I had no choice but to write these songs. It was my way of dealing
with the experience and getting it all out. Therapy, if you will." Purchase the inspiring EP today on BandCamp or iTunes.

The Coalition for a Sustainable Africa and We Own TV present a special
screening of the award winning documentary Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars
followed by a Q&A with the film's Director Banker White and Headlining
Artist: Black Nature
7:30pm - 10:00pm / $10 Presale and $12 at the door

Culver Plaza Theaters - 9919 Washington Blvd. Culver City, CA
The film tells the remarkable and uplifting story of a
group of six Sierra Leonean musicians who came together to form a band while
living as refugees in the Republic of Guinea. A brutal civil war (1991-2002)
forced them from their homes in Sierra Leone. Many of their family and friends
were murdered in the violence, leaving them with physical and emotional scars
that may never heal. Despite the unimaginable horrors of civil war, they were
saved through their music. Through music they find a place of refuge, a sense
of purpose and a source of power. The film follows the band over the course of
three years as they make the difficult decision to return to their war-torn
country and realize their dream of recording an album of their original music.
