OM Records Donates $5,000 to NextAid
|
Good news! San Francisco based dance music imprint Om Records has made a heartfelt five thousand dollar donation to NextAid, continuing the label's commitment to the cause and helping to maintain a message of solidarity between NextAid and the dance music community.
A longtime partner of NextAid, Om Records has been working to make a difference in Africa since 2005 when it released the ever-popular reBOOT CD, a compilation of exclusive tracks by world-class talent like Thievery Corporation, Louie Vega, Miguel Migs, and Mark Farina. reBOOT covers a range of musical genres from afro-beat, spoken word poetry and soulful house to dub reggae and "Om" lounge-style downtempo and all proceeds from CD sales are donated to NextAid. Read more and buy the CD.
"The (AIDS) situation in South Africa, as most know, is horrific, with many communities creating a generation of orphans, robbed not just of their innocence, but of their chance for a healthy, vital future," explains Om Records' President Chris Smith. "reBOOT is our attempt to humanize the problem of AIDS in Africa. This project, in support of NextAid initiatives, pays homage to the roots of our music, while raising consciousness about the urgency of the situation and actively making a difference for Africa today."
NextAid thanks Om Records and looks forward to collaborating with Om in the future. www.om-records.com |

Day of the African Child, June 16
|
In honor of the Day of African Child on June 16, 2007, make a donation towards building safe, sustainable structures for orphaned children to live, work, and learn. Day of the African Child is a day recognized throughout the world as an opportunity to reflect on progress toward health, education, equality, and protection for all African children. The theme of the day this year is child trafficking, and by that, we mean the illegal transport of children for the purpose of sale and/or exploiting their labor. One of the most severe violations of human rights, child trafficking affects over a million children worldwide. Click here to make a donation and help make a difference now.
