 Dear Members/Friends,

It wasn't enough for us to turn over the calendar page to September and get the kids off to school and go back to work--the weather turned, too!  In line with this seasonal shift, I'd like to welcome all of you to the autumn programming and activities with The British-American Business Council of the Pacific Northwest!

It's a distinct pleasure for me to welcome two new board members, Kristinn Jackson of Northwest Airlines/KLM and Juliana Stancampiano of Oxygen Learning.  We are fortunate to have a diverse and hard working board of directors who commit to financially supporting the organization which in turn enables us to maintain a high level of programs while keeping the costs affordable to our members.  There's more information about Kristinn and Juliana a bit further in the newsletter and I hope it isn't too long before you get an opportunity to meet them.

I'd like to thank Miller Nash for excellent support and sponsorship of our Summer Showcase held in July in their great offices in 2 Union Square.  As usual, this annual event gets folks from all the European chambers and business groups together to learn more about each other's businesses, services and products--and have a glass of wine and some nosh.  Along the same lines, Steve Bowden of Smith Barney in Tacoma continues to steer monthly gatherings at Woody's on the Water for South Sound folks--so if you're in the area, drop in on a last Wednesday.

Our 12th Annual Les Harding Memorial Golf Tournament was a terrific success this year at the Golf Club at Echo Falls.  Thanks to the strong leadership of Jacqueline Dean Witter (Isilon Systems) and Rick Curry (Gateways International), members and guests alike enjoyed a sunny outing and great camaraderie--and I suspect even some business got conducted while watching those little white balls fly through the air!

I am looking forward to two outstanding events that you will want to take advantage of this autumn.  On October 16th, the BABC/FACC Shared Aerospace Committee will present a conference, "Navigating a Successful Strategy in Aerospace & Defense Through Turbulent Skies" and you'll find a lot more about it in further communications.  And, then on December 5th, the BABC's 13th Annual Christmas Luncheon will be held once again at the Rainier Club.  Earlybird table sales closed on August 31, but tables can still be purchased until we have no more left.  Several tables are reserved for individual registrations but they will not go on sale until late October, early November.  If 8 folks want to get together and purchase a table now, just make sure there is one contact person and one payment.  There's more in the newsletter about this opportunity.

If you are not on various BABC distribution lists or have prospective members who you'd like to see receiving our information, please let the office know either by phone at 206-236-2116 or by email at baccpnw@drizzle.com.

Cheers,

Dave Baron

J-1 VISA

If you are transferring staff and/or qualified executives into the United States for up to 18 months of training and work experience from anywhere in the world, the J-1 Visa Program may well offer you a very expedient, easy and cost-effective solution.  The Program is offered exclusively to members of BABC chapters.

How does a BABC Member Company Qualify for the Program?

The company needs to:

1)    be a member of a chapter of the BABC in the US; and

2)    either be doing business between the US and the UK, through a parent or subsidiary company; or if the company does not have a presence in the UK through a parent or subsidiary relationship, the company must intend to establish a UK office, thereby justifying their need to bring a UK-based executive into the USA for training and work experience.

Please go to www.babc.org and click on J-1 Visa for FAQ's and answers and the pdf's to use in applying.
