Finbarr Ross Message from Finbarr

Dear Fellow Travelers,

We just entered the first new moon period of a new decade; a special new moon because we also had an eclipse which asks us to set our intent for the next 6 months. In this time of transition we are being asked to ponder many things, so I ask you to ponder whether you are a pilgrim or tourist...

PILGRIMS or TOURISTS

We are told we should be pilgrims in life, but instead we have become tourists.
Pilgrims are on a special journey. Every part of it has meaning -
the setbacks the frustrations, as well as the joys.
Tourists are out to enjoy life, to seek pleasure, fun or just rest.
Pilgrims carry little with them, just enough for their needs.
Tourists are burdened with possessions and are always anxious about losing them.
Pilgrims stay as long as they need to be in a place.
Tourists have schedules to keep and are always rushing on.
Pilgrims are humble, open to people and experiences.
Tourists are arrogant, they know what they want, and they'll see it, do it, find it.
Pilgrims share what they have. Tourists never have quite enough.
Pilgrims are changed by their journey. Tourists are always a little bit disappointed -
it is never quite as good as they had hoped.
Lord, help us to be pilgrims in life - not just tourists.
- Isabelle Kingston -

Pilgrim

Pilgrim, how your journey on the road you chose

To find out why the winds die and where the stories go

All days come from one day that much you must know

You cannot change what's over but only where you go.

One way leads to diamonds, one way leads to gold

Another leads you only to everything you're told

In your heart you wonder which of these is true

The road that leads to nowhere, the road that leads to you.

Will you find the answer

In all you say or do?

Will you find the answer in you?

Each heart is a pilgrim, each on wants to know

The reason why the winds die and where the stories go

Pilgrims, in your journey you may travel far

For pilgrims it's a long way to find out who you are

Pilgrim, it's a long way

To find out who you are...(2)

Its highest point is the hill of Mullach Mor.The island has a long history as a sacred place, with a spring said to have healing properties, the 6th Century monk Saint Molaise hermits cave, and evidence of a 13th Century monastery. Indeed the earlier Gaelic name for the island was Eilean Molaise, Molaise's Island. This became corrupted to Elmolaise, Limolas, and finally Lamlash the name now associated with the adjacent bay and town.

It is now owned by the Samy Ling Buddhist Community, who belong to the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. The settlements on the island include the Centre for World Peace and Health, founded by Lama Yeshe Losal,  on the north of the island. We will visit this Centre, weather and tides permitting.
