Kyle Spurgeon will assume
the responsibilities of president and chief executive officer for the Jackson
Area Chamber of Commerce October 5. His selection ends an intensive two-month

president of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce in Murfreesboro.
"This is a great day for
the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce and for our city," said search

Chamber Member Profile - Armstrong Hardwood Flooring
Armstrong Hardwood Flooring, at 154 Rosedale St. in Jackson,
has helped provide wood floors for American homes since 1947.
That's a lot of wood in a lot
of homes. At this time, the facility has about 2.5 million board feet of lumber
waiting in the drying process before manufacturing can occur.
"To give you a feeling of the
amount of wood, that's 5,000 miles of lumber stacked end to end, or the
distance of New York City to Honolulu," says plant manager Brent Hayman.
Annually, the Jackson
operation, under the Armstrong Floor Products business unit of Armstrong's
global corporation, Armstrong World Industries Inc., produces enough hardwood flooring to cover about 10,000
average-size homes.

Volunteers Help Chamber Gain 215 New Members
While most Chambers of Commerce struggle with a membership drive, the Jackson Area Chamber held an event like no other! For two and a half days, over 130 volunteers worked against the clock and against each other to sign up new chamber members and create a greater community awareness of the important role of the chamber of commerce. The event was organized by a company called Your Chamber Connection whose specialty is high energy membership campaigns that allow volunteers to conduct 'out of the box' membership fun while building the membership base.
At the conclusion of the drive, volunteers gained 215 new members - bring the total number of Chamber members to an all-time high at 1,381 and generating revenue of almost $53,000! The Red Team, led by Randy Kennedy, was the overall winner. Other teams included the Lime Green Team, led by Laura Williams; The Light Blue Team, led by Gary Grisham; The Pink Team, led by Steve Little; The Orange Team, led by Marty Fordham; The Black Team, led by Monte Jones; and The Dark Blue Team, led by Dr. Melvin Wright. "Our volunteers make the Chamber and its programs stronger," said Tammy Boyd, Chief Administrative Officer. "We cannot thank them enough for all they do."
