Latture Resigns Post
Paul Latture, President/CEO Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce
Paul Latture, III, President/CEO of the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce announced his resignation from the organization, effective June 8. Latture's last day with the Chamber will be August 7.
A third generation economic developer, Latture has been President/CEO of the Jackson Area Chamber since 2002. He is leaving to accept a position as president of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Rutherford County has been named among the fastest growing counties in the United States for four consecutive years.
"I am extremely excited about this opportunity," Latture said. "My family and I will always cherish the time we have spent in Jackson, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about this great community, about all the people I've encountered in my years of service here, and especially about the dedicated staff I was fortunate to lead."

Jackson Pringles Plant Celebrates Safety Milestone
 The Jackson Procter & Gamble plant recently celebrated achieving over 8 million safe work hours. Through May the plant had gone 8.2 million work hours without a lost work day case, spanning a period of 5 years.
This is an outstanding accomplishment for the Jackson Procter & Gamble location, placing it as a leading manufacturing plant in the company with this measure. It is also a testament to the site's leadership and commitment to safety, reflecting total employee ownership in creating an injury-free environment.

Chamber Member Profile - Gerdau Ameristeel Employees Provide Foundation for Success

Gerdau Ameristeel has enjoyed a presence in the Jackson community for almost 30 years. The company (known then as Florida Steel) broke ground at its Jackson Steel Mill in the fall of 1979 and hired its first employees in 1980. The plant, located on Highway 45 in North Madison County, began production in 1981 and, over the past 28 years, has melted over 20 billion pounds of recycled scrap metal and produced over 10 million tons of steel. The Jackson Steel Mill currently employs more than 300 people and produces a variety of merchant and structural shaped products to include angles, channels, flats, rounds, squares and rebar. Gerdau Ameristeel and its employees have also been very active in community and charitable events and the company has donated significant quantities of steel over the years to help with the construction of local facilities such as the Ned McWherter Center, Denmark Elementary School, and the Jackson Careers & Technology Intermediate School.

Miss Hamilton County Stefanie Wittler Crowned Miss Tennessee

At the culmination of the 2009 Miss Tennessee Scholarship Pageant, held June 17-20 at the Carl Perkins Civic Center, Miss Hamilton County Stefanie Wittler was crowned Miss Tennessee 2009. It was Wittler's third time to vie for the title.
Wittler, 22, won a $10,000 scholarship and is the new spokeswoman for Governor Phil Bredesen's Safe and Drug-Free Tennessee program.
As first runner-up, Miss Memphis Cyrena Wages won a $5,000 scholarship.
Second runner-up Miss Greene County Brooke Waddell received a $4,000 scholarship. Third runner-up Miss City Lights Kayla Hockett earned a $3,000 scholarship and received the Miss Congeniality Award, while fourth runner-up Miss Metropolitan Kaley Schwab received a $2,000 scholarship. Semifinalists Miss Scenic City Chandler Lawson, Miss University of Tennessee Knoxville Adria Farr, Miss Lexington Catherine Ritter, Miss Nashville Victoria Paige Green and Miss Tennessee Soybean Festival Hannah-Wade Powell were awarded $1,500 scholarships from the pageant's fund of $62,000.

Volunteer of the Month - Peggy Graves

Chamber Diplomat Peggy Graves is a realtor with Coldwell Banker Real Estate Now. She and her team of five licensed agents and two support staff - The Peggy Graves Team - are consistently ranked in the top 2% of all Coldwell Banker agents nationwide. Peggy has been in the real estate business for over 30 years, and says she enjoys it as much now as when she began.
"The real estate business is constantly evolving in the areas of relocation, first time buyers, move up buyers, new home sales and short sales," says Peggy. "It's different every day, and I think that's what makes it so enjoyable."
Peggy first became involved with the Chamber about 20 years ago as both a member and a volunteer. In addition to being a Diplomat, she has served in several volunteer roles, including an Ambassador and assisting with Chamber events.
"The Chamber gives so much to our community," says Graves. "I felt like I needed to help give back to the Chamber."
"I have met a lot of people and formed many business contacts through my work with the Chamber and attendance at Chamber events. Because of this involvement, I have made friends and have been able to advance my business."
Besides volunteering with the Chamber, Peggy is also involved with Youth Town, the American Heart Association, Relay for Life, and several business organizations.
