PATCO rail car overhaul project
They are as promised - nothing but the stainless steel shell of what once was a PATCO High Speed Line train car. Actually six rail car shells. In an update delivered Wednesday to the Operations and Maintenance Committee of the Delaware River Port Authority's commissioners, agency Chief Engineer Michael Venuto showed off photos of the work being performed by Alstom Transport. The New York firm is overhauling PATCO's 120 car fleet - all of which pre-date 1975. To date, six cars have been totally reduced to their steel shells while two others are nearing that point Alstom, which has a $194 million contract to perform the work, will then rebuild the cars. Venuto noted there are approximately 13 different systems for each car - such as heating, cooling and ventilation - that have to be designed. Two systems have been designed, seven are at 90 percent of review and four are at 60 percent of review. It has been nearly a year since the first rail cars were delivered to New York. There are 26 cars at present. The first of the rebuilt cars are due back to PATCO in March 2013. The rest of the fleet will be rebuilt through early 2016. PATCO has spent $13 million to date, about 7 percent of the contract cost, on the project. Story by John Barna/Courtesy of the Gloucester County Times

PATCO is pleased to promote a new phone application
An app developer volunteered to create a phone application for our FREEDOM To Save PROGRAM. Vidappe ["Vid-app"] is a free iPhone/Android app that will alert all the PATCO FREEDOM Card holders about discounts they can use in real-time. This new mobile app will let people know about all the eligible discounts. Get close to a discount; get an alert -i.e. "20% off at Bistro St. Tropez a block away." Check it out at Vidappe.com to download the application. It's that simple. Then start receiving real-time push notifications whenever you are near any FREEDOM To Save participating business. In the near future, other app developers can look for additional information to submit apps on our website.

PATCO'S 21st Annual Valentine Food Drive
Hundreds of area residents, including seniors and children, feel hunger every day. Around the holidays many receive food baskets, but those gifts don't last long. For over 20 years, PATCO customers have generously donated food to the annual Valentine Food Drive. Some years we have collected 500 pounds; sometimes over a thousand. The need this year is as great as ever. You can help. Please bring non-perishable food (no aluminum soda cans or glass bottles) to the red barrels in the New Jersey stations on weekday mornings during the week of February 13-17, 2012.
