New Developments, Updates, Facts, and Regional Activities from DRPA
The e-newsletter from the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) is a new means of getting you the information you need about our premier regional transportation agency covering the port district of Southern New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania. These monthly e-newsletters are designed to provide you with an important source for information about new developments, updates, facts, and regional activities from DRPA.
Lean Government
Over the past year, under the direction of DRPA Chief Financial Officer John T. Hanson, the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) has been implementing a "Lean Government" pilot program.  The focus of this Initiative is to improve operational and organizational processes and decision-making throughout the Authority to increase overall performance as we continue to deliver safe, secure and serviceable transportation facilities for the benefit of the public and all of our stakeholders.

Lean Government combines proven "Lean" and "Six Sigma" organizational improvement methodologies with team building tools designed to empower employees across all functions and at all levels of the organization to meet strategic objectives.  At its foundation is a renewed focus on strategic planning, process improvement, project management and accountability.  Lean Government emphasizes the use of data and metrics to measure organizational performance.

Although still a relatively new initiative, the group of nearly 100 employees representing DRPA and PATCO has already made some preliminary findings and recommendations that have been incorporated into the current budget and other organizational processes.

PATCO Concourse Improvements
Two PATCO stations in Camden and all four in Philadelphia are getting a new look.  It's all part of a $9.6 million program to improve the concourses in Camden's City Hall Station and the Walter Rand Transportation Center as well as in the stations at 8th and Market and 9th/10th, 12th/13th, and 15th/16th and Locust in Philadelphia.  The concourse improvements at City Hall and 8th and Market were recently completed.

The concourse improvements are designed to keep PATCO as one of the premier transit systems in the country. The improvements include the installation of special flooring, lighting and wall applications. The stations will also be easier to navigate with new signage.  In keeping with the Authority's Green Initiative, the improved lighting will use low energy and very minimal maintenance LED light fixtures.

The remaining four subway stations, one in Camden and three in Philadelphia, should be upgraded by late 2011.

Cooper-Norcross Bridge Challenge

This race is certified by the U.S. Track and Field Association, and is part of the Grand Prix circuit. The proceeds from this race directly benefit Larc School located in Bellmawr. As you may be aware, Larc is a special needs school for children and young adults with multiple disabilities.

The Cooper Norcross Bridge Challenge raises thousands of dollars and last year attracted over 3,500 runners and walkers. If you are interested in participating in this worthwhile event please visit, www.runthebridge.com.
