Reno Cooking Tips

I enjoy doing this segment of my E-Newsletter since I do come across several situations worthy of mentioning. I am a firm believer in the 6 P's......Proper Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance. Perhaps some of my solutions may help your projects or even recipes go smoother.

 In Good Taste
Think outstide the brick oven -and go to the grill instead!  Grilled pizza cooks quickly and many bases work, including foccasia, flat bread, or, of course, classic pizza dough.  It is easy and fun to do.  And, by the way, you can grill most of the toppings too!

Cook it Now...
Eat it Later
Even with air conditioning, your kitchen can get too close for comfort in warm weather. So why turn on more than you have to?
Many bread recipes allow you to make a few mini quick breads -blueberry, zucchini and cinnamon - with one basic batter.  You simply mix up the batter, divide it among three small bowls and add the flavor ingrediants.  You can enjoy one bread today and freeze the other two for another meal...or whenever you crave a healthy snack.
Oh.... It saves energy too!

I Look forward to bringing you Reno-Tips with each E-Newsletter. Please feel free to send along one of your great Reno-Tips and  if selected, you will receive a $25 American Express gift certificate!

Outdoor Kitchens are Hot!

All it takes is a quick stroll down the aisles of a home center or outdoor living store to spot the trend. Grills are getting bigger and more powerful, and accessories such as side burners and rotisseries are becoming standard equipment on all but the least expensive units.  You'll find storage units, weatherized refrigerators, and outdoor sinks - items that required a trip to a specialty retailer just a few years ago.  Statistics show that consumers are buying into the trend as recent shipments of outdoor grills have increased at double-digit rates.

Renovisions is proud to offer outdoor kitchen design and installation so.....

All you have to do is prep for the Feast !

 Why an Outdoor Kitchen?

Although there ate plenty of good reasons to consider an outdoor kitchen, the decision must be based on your needs.  Here are the examples of why you might want to consider installing something beyond a basic grill.
  • You grill at least twice a week during the warmer months and even have been known to fire the burners in the depths of a frigid winter.
  • You're aching to try something beyond the usual burgers and boneless chicken wings but your equipment is not up to the job.
  • You routinely find yourself cooking food indoors and then bringing it out to the patio or deck for family dinners or entertaining.
  • You feel trapped in the house at the end of the day because you don't have pleasant outdoor living space.

If one or more of these descriptions fits you, an outdoor kitchen likely will be a worthwhile investment.

Like all investments, an outdoor kitchen requires an infusion of cash.  You can find a solution that will fit into any reasonable budget, from under $1,000 for a very basic do-it-yourself grill, work surfaces and storage; to $2,500 for a weather proof modular kitchen in stainless steel; to a $60,00 (or more) all-inclusive package with a commercial grill, stone counters, and an array of appliances - all nestled into a spacious pavilion.

Which raises one final question: Just what do you need to rightly call your space an "outdoor kitchen?"  Although no single description works  for everyone, the basic components are similar for all: a grill or other outdoor cooking equipment, some preparation space, and a dining area.  Some outdoor kitchens go far beyond these basics to include fireplaces or fire pits, seating and gathering areas, multiple cooking and cleanup stations, and generous food storage capacity.

Stone Wall Action

If you live in an area with abundant native stone, make the most of your bounty when building an outdoor kitchen.  The material's timeless appeal and infinite life mean that it will be around for generations.

This outdoor kitchen features mostly granite walls.   Its smooth, square slate patio tiles make a surface that is easily walkable.  Plenty of plantings - small, well-placed trees, neatly-clipped shrubbery, and containers that can be moved about to fine tune the look - soften and lighten the massive, quarried appearance. Outdoor wrought iron furniture would fit nicely in this woodsy atmosphere.

The result is an excellent example of why materials, landscaping, and furnichings are best considered as a whole when planning an outdoor kitchen. The reward is a coherent decorating theme, rather than a haphazard combination of materials and design elements.

Bringing Spring & Summer into your home is as easy as tying on a slipcover or filling a vase with flowers.

Take a look outside.  Summer is finally here, shedding a much lighter, brighter attitude.  Spring  & summer is the perfect time to refresh and renew your rooms.  It's time to clear away last year's clutter, replace warm-and-cozy fabrics with sheer alternatives, and bring in a bit of nature indoors.  Think fresh flowers, cool breezes, and plenty of sunlight.  But keep your updates simple.  This is the season when you'll spend most of your time outdoors, so you'll want decor that's easygoing.

Durable and washable are the name of the game.  Many of the newest outdoor fabrics are pretty enough to use in your living room, yet they can stand up to your children's spills and your dog's muddy feet. And as counterintuitive as it may seem, white us actually a smart color for cotton slipcovers.  You can toss a soiled seat cover or two into the washing machine whenever the material starts to look dingy.

On your windows, fabrics to lighten up.  Send heavy draperies to the dry cleaner and pack them away until fall. Then hang up simple sailcloth panels or romantic, gauzy sheers.  Move your heirloom Oriental carpet to the attic for the season and replace it with a maintenance-free indoor/outdoor rug or a textural natural fiber style.  The result will be a backdrop that's clean and modern.

Complete your makeover with accessories that suit the season.  Pile cheerful-colored throw pillows onto your couches and chairs, fill a clear glass hurricane with a collection of sea shells and use simple vases to hold fresh-cut flowers.......Oh, and don't forget to come by our showroom to pick out a yummy scented  Mia Bella candle to
add to the ambiance....Ahhhh....Summer time living!!

We love it when our customers
 ask questions!
It means they are concerned about wanting a custom Renovision rather than just a standard renovation.

Q. Will I be required to come up with a design?
A. We like to think that it is a collaborative effort. We will sit with you, listen to your ideas, bounce some ideas around with you, then come back with concepts. We'll then again sit with you and together finalize the plans.
