Mayfair Games has an extensive show planned for GenCon Indy. Please join them in the Exhibitors Hall for Demo Central where you will be able to demo dozens of games.  Take part in the Great Mayfair Ribbon Quest (is DelMarVa calling you?) and earn your Knighthood, Squirehood, or Page status.  Stop by the booth and check out the new "Catan Goodies." Visit the Mayfair Room and play one of our GIANT board games or one of the many titles in our Library.  We will also host our second Worldwide Catan Championship Qualifiers and the winner of this Tournament will be heading to Germany to represent the US in the Worldwide Catan Championship. We'll have almost everything needed for a fantastic party, and if you join us, we'll have it all!

Mayfair Games is also excited to announce that it will host a trio of world-class game designers at its booth at Gen Con Indy on August 5 - 8.  These designers include Martin Wallace, H. Jean Vanaise, and Uwe Eickert. All three designers, along with members of their families, will be at the Mayfair Games booth demoing their games, answering questions, and signing autographs.

Spending July in the Islands!

July is here and many people are thinking about visiting the islands this summer.  For those of you who can't get away right now, you can always visit the island of Catan. Mayfair Games has a number of tours available for your summer "StayCation."  Why not check out one or more of these fun and affordable outings:

The Settlers of Catan™:

Nothing beats a classic.  The original Settlers of Catan™ is a classic game and easily accessible for you to play with friends and family.  If you are going to get away for the summer, you can take along a copy of the Catan Portable Edition™; it has all of the fun of the original but takes up much less room in your suitcase.
Catan Dice Game Deluxe™:

Another fun choice in the Catan family, the Catan Dice Game Deluxe™ takes up little space in your luggage, and can be played anywhere (including the airport, train station, or cruise ship cabin).  The whole game fits in the leatherette dice cup.  And if you are running low on score sheets, you can download copies for free from our website.
Candamir™:

CandamirFor those who want to play a board game AND a role-playing game, there is Candamir™.  This game allows you to play the role of one of the first settlers on Catan.  By gathering the resources you need and trading for others, you will be able to build a place for you to live and create a new society.

Settlers of America: Trails to Rails™:

Mayfair Games is the largest producer of train games.  It was only a matter of time before we produced a Catan/Train game.  Settlers of America: Trails to Rails™ is the perfect combination of the elements of Catan (produce/trade/build) and train games(build rails/deliver goods).  Catan moves off the island and comes to America.  Head west and fulfill your destiny!

Catan 2-Player Card Game™ - Coming Q3!:

Klaus Teuber is finishing up work on the redesign of the Catan 2-Player Card Game and it will be coming out later this year.  Those who love Catan AND want to play a 2 player game will love this streamlined Catan card game.

Whether you are traveling this summer or staying home, you can always visit Catan with friends and family.  Because it doesn't matter where you go, going anywhere with friends and family makes the trip better.  You can visit us on the web at www.mayfairgames.com for more information on these or any of our many fine games.  Happy Trails!

"Why We Still Love Board Games" by Tim Harford is a great read with words from Klaus himself!

Financial Times writer Tim Harford did a wonderful art & leisure piece about "why we still love board games" this week. In his article, Tim discusses the various reasons why we'll always love board games and what keeps the pastime going strong. Klaus Teuber was also interviewed for the piece and contributed some great words on the topic.

Catan for Microsoft Surface Debuted at Origins 2010!
Come see the MSSurface again or for the first time at GenCon Indy in the Mayfair Games booth!

Beanies

Catan for the Microsoft Surface, developed by Vectorform, made it's debut at last month's Origins International Game fair. Origins attendees were first to get a chance to test drive Catan on this innovative platform. Players experienced game features like multi-touch playing and "State-free-trade", which allow players to swap cards without entering modes or pressing buttons.

The MSSurface will be at the Mayfair Games booth at GenCon Indy this August. Make sure to stop by their booth and give Catan for the Surface a try!

Below is a link to a fan video of some gamers learning how to play Catan on the Surface at Origins. Please watch the video to see how these gamers demonstrate all of the various features:

New blog posts from Catanism!
Read "Reform of the Catan Card Game - Part 6" by Klaus Teuber and "Catan is the Motherland of Soccer!" by Dr. Reiner Düren

The latest installment of Klaus Teuber's blog series about the reform of the Catan Card Game introduces us to new cards in the Era of Gold theme set. Klaus details the back story behind the theme as well as how the theme intensifies the struggle for trade advantage in the new card game.

Read Klaus Teuber's post: The Reform of the Card Game in 2010 - Part 6

Dr. Reiner Düren explains how to integrate soccer into your Catan game with a special Catan Soccer variant! He even goes so far as to explain why Catanians love soccer so much and the history behind their passion for the game.

In the Name of Heroes - Prize Drawing Winners!
The new Catan 2-player Card Game is coming this fall!

The prize drawing for the revised version of the Catan Card Game "The Princes of Catan" has concluded. We received over 185 entries, 145 of which were correct and valid.

BeaniesBeaniesBeanies

In Klaus Teuber's corresponding blog post, the names were still blackened out; we had placed small hints here on this website:

BeaniesBeaniesBeaniesBeaniesBeaniesBeanies

We had asked for:

BeaniesBeaniesBeanies

T - letter 4 of the name of the character with the book: Austin
A - letter 2 of the name of the character with the axe: Candamir
N - letter 2 of the name of the character with the raven: Inga
U - letter 4 of the name of the character with the sword: Osmund
R - letter 3 of the name of the character with the hammer: Harald
I - letter 2 of the name of the character with the sickle: Siglind

Therefore, the solution word was "Tanuri." Here's the respective quote from the Catan novel:

"It was springtime and [Odin's] blood was seething in his veins, as it does with all creatures, when he caught sight of the daughter of the Fairy King standing alongside a brook. Her name was Tanuri, which means Daughter of the Starlight in the tongue of the fairies. [...] When she returned, she said she would accept his suit if he gave her a land that was perfect. [...] In Tanuri's honor, Odin named the island Catan, which in the tongue of the fairies means Land of Starlight."

The prizes - one 3D-Catan, 4x "The Settlers of America," and 5x the Catan Dice Game Deluxe Edition -  have now been drawn.

The winners are:

1st prize: 3D-Catan
Gerhild Hasewend, Klagenfurt / Austria

2nd - 5th prize: The Settlers of America
Daniel Grad, Bucharest / Romania
Simone Eberhardt, Sukow-Levitzow / Germany
F. Hilchenbach, Stuttgart / Germany
Mitchell Padgett, Atlanta, GA / USA

6.-10. Prize: Die Siedler von Catan - Das Würfelspiel - XXL-Ausgabe
Jeannette Gund, Oberhausen-Rheinhausen / Germany
Andreas H., Odense / Denmark
M. S., Kürten / Germany
S. M., Zagreb / Croatia
Michael Thiel, Osterholz-Scharmbeck / Germany

The prizes will be mailed to the winners in July.

On behalf of Catan GmbH and KOSMOS Verlag, congratulations to all winners!
