Settlers of America is Coming this Summer!
Announcing the latest addition to the Catan Histories
line, Settlers of America: Trails to
Rails! This new game combines the two strongest categories of the
Mayfair Games product line, train games and Catan games, to create the
first ever Catan train gaming experience! Look for this exciting new
Catan and Mayfair Games
title to hit stores this summer in June 2010!
The 19th Century has arrived and Americans are heading west to make
their fortune. Wagon trains
are forming up and heading out to settle new lands and build new
cities.
These new cities will need railroad lines to bring in new people and
necessary
goods. As the population
grows,
resources will
dwindle and the smart players seek new resources, fresh building sites,
and untapped markets. Finance your
settlers as they head west to build the cities of tomorrow. Link these
cities
with rails of steel and operate your railroad to supply the townsfolk
with
goods. To the west lie lands to settle and
fortunes to be made!
Settlers
of America: Trails to Rails utilizes the familiar Catan hex-tile
grid to present a map of
the United States. Players collect and trade resources, in
order to purchase, migrate and build settlements, forge railroads and
acquire locomotives. Railroads are used to distribute goods to the
interconnected cities. As westward locations are settled, old sources of
resources
deplete. The addition of gold adds to the depth of play and increases
options for the players.
As this point Settlers of America will be available only in
English from Mayfair Games. (3-4 players, ages 10+, 60-90 minutes,
approx. $55)

Relaunch of the Playcatan Website!
On Monday, February 22, we launched our completely revised
PlayCatan website, now separating the English pages at www.playcatan.com
from the German ones at www.playcatan.de.
Even though the visual appearance of the new website may not seem very
different at first glance - the internal changes could not have been
more drastic.
The new site features a more comprehensible structure, containing
sections for the Browser Games,
the Catan Online
World, and the computer game "Catan -
Cities & Knights." The respective game instructions,
statistics, or download pages are directly accessible, without having to
search for them somewhere else.
The icing on the cake is that each and every web page now has a
readable, recognizable address without cryptic numerical sequences. Who
would have thought that
http://www.cms.playcatan.com/content/view/283/41/lang,en_US/
simply stood for the Catan Online World instructions? The new URL
http://www.playcatan.com/cow-instructions.html
obviously displays this in a much more friendly way.
www.playcatan.com
is open for visits - please feel free to drop by!

Catan Card Game Redesign Parts 2, 3, and 4! Read even more from Klaus Teuber himself about the history and future of the Catan Card Game! Also, read a new post from our PlayCatan community manager, Jim Plane!
Dive deeper into the story behind the Catan Card Game and the future plans for the re-design in parts two and three of The Reform of the Card Game 2010 by Klaus Teuber.
Part 2 - Expanding the Card Game addresses the history of Catan Card Game expansions. The blog entry begins discussing the first card game expansion, the "Tournament Set" released in 1997, and concludes with the most recent "Artisans & Benefactors" expansion. You can read more about how the card game was expanded at the link below:
http://blog.catan.com/2010/01/card-game-reform-2010-part-2/
Part 3 - First Concept and Development discusses five of the most important issues with the card game that needed to be addressed in the re-design. The entry also explains how solutions to these problems lead to splitting the game into a basic game with theme sets for the re-release. This new arrangement essentially turns one game into four! Read more about this entry at the link below:
http://blog.catan.com/2010/01/card-game-reform-2010-part-3/
Part 4 - History of Catan and Illustration recounts history of Catan and the the new card
illustrations by Michael Menzel influenced by this history. This installment covers the fictitious Catanian History from Rebecca Gable's German novel, Catanian architecture, and how these two elements helped Michael Menzel create the new city card for the card game reform. http://blog.catan.com/2010/03/card-game-reform-2010-part-4/
