 North American Catan Championships! PrezCon will the be the first qualifier of 2009!
Visit the Mayfair website to see all of the upcoming Settlers of North American Catan Championship Qualifier Events. Charlottesville, Virginia's own PrezCon will be hosting a North American Catan Championship Qualifier Event! The winner of this grand event will receive round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations and admission to GenConIndy2009 in August, where the North American Settlers of Catan Championship will take place. The winner of the GenConIndy2009 NACC shall represent North America in the WWCC World Wide Catan Championship to be held in Germany in 2010, with Mayfair Games providing airfare to Germany and lodging.

 Longest Board Gaming Marathon Attempt with The Settlers of Catan!
This is a great story that we were just alerted to recently. Six Catan players in Canada set out to beat the Guinness World Record for the Longest Board Gaming Marathon on January 16th. The previous record for the longest boardgaming marathon is 42 hours and 48 minutes, set in 2006 playing the game Carcassonne.
The six finished the marathon victoriously on January 18th with a new world record of 50 hours! Not only are we grateful that these gamers chose to set the record with Catan, but they also used the event to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. This is truly a noble achievement for the gaming community and our hat goes off to Mark Hing, Martin Phillips-Hing, David Ediger, Dave Northey, George Sawatsky, and Sam Dyck for their successful marathon and general social compassion.

 Spotlight: Struggle for Rome!
Struggle for Rome is the second game in the Catan Histories line, utilizing Catan game mechanics to explore real-life history. In Struggle for Rome, players lead barbarian tribes in overthrowing the overextended Roman Empire. Players guide two tribes, warriors and horsemen, across the board plundering cities and later conquering them. Victory points can be achieved in both phases of the game, either by plundering a certain number of cities or by conquering them.
Your noble tribe is strong, but rival princes stand in your way! Are you wily enough to outmaneuver them? Will you have enough wealth from plundering to found your own kingdom? Your fate is in your hands: civilization is ripe for conquest! Will you forge a mighty new kingdom? Will you be the one to inherit the storied glory of Rome?  New City in the Catan Online World!
We are happy to announce that on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, the first regional city of the English speaking COW community opened its gates for new and old settlers. In a poll conducted in World Village, citizens selected PORT NIAGARA as the name of their new city.
This city is mainly intended to accommodate US/Canada residents,
currently the largest and fastest-growing group of our English speaking
online community; however, residents from other countries are welcome
too. Port Niagara's "official" language will, of course, be English.
In the future, all newcomers to the COW who indicated "English" as
their language option and stated the US or Canada as their country of
residence will automatically be assigned to the new city. All other
newcomers with language option "English" will continue to arrive in
World Village, our international city.
