A New Year
As we enter a new year, I am always fascinated by people's resolutions. What are yours?
In this edition of my Monthly Report,
I've decided to try something different. I've asked some of my campus
leadership to volunteer their New Year's resolutions. Below is just a
sampling; however, based on these responses I am sure you can see what
eager, fun and forward-thinking administrators we have.

The Resolutions
As you
move into the new year, think of your connection to UW Bothell. What
resolution could you consider that can help grow our institution?
I
resolve to continue to work tirelessly on behalf of this institution;
to challenge my faculty and staff to look beyond what is to what could
be and what needs to be; and to support my students as they enjoy their
time on campus. -Kenyon Chan, Chancellor
In
alignment with the seven priorities for the 21st Century Campus Initiative
and the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment, UW
Bothell Administration and Planning is committed to continue reducing our
campus carbon footprint. This year, we will continue our annual
wetland reforestation efforts by planting an additional 3,000 trees, continue
our demand reduction efforts with PSE's Energy Demand Response program, work with Johnson
Controls Inc., and complete a number of energy conservation projects which will
move us closer to our future goal of campus carbon neutrality.
-Marilyn
Cox, Vice Chancellor for Administration and Planning
I resolve to create widespread opinion on the part of the
thinking, acting public that UW Bothell is a statewide leader for innovation in
higher education.
-Richard
Penny, Vice Chancellor for Advancement and External Relations
In
Information Technologies, we resolve to work collaboratively and strategically
with the campus community on the development of new initiatives so as UW
Bothell grows we can continue to provide the innovative technology services
that faculty, staff, and students need.
-Betsy
Tippens, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Information Technologies
The Education Program resolves to develop our expertise and extend leadership
in e-Learning for our region. Also, we resolve to successfully launch our new
Master's degree program in Educational Leadership.
-Brad
Portin, Director, Education Program
I resolve to continue the great work of the Business Program
by growing our new Leadership MBA and adding a BA in Business Administration in
Bellevue in Fall 2010.
-Sandeep Krishnamurthy, Director, Business Program
The
Library resolves to continue to provide excellent services and a welcoming
learning environment for all students, faculty and staff.
-Sarah Leadley,
Director, UW Bothell Library
I resolve to expand the CSS Master's degree during its
second year of operation by growing enrollment by at least 50%. -Mike Stiber, Director, CSS Program
I resolve
to take over the entire campus, subsuming all other degree programs as subunits
of IAS and enforcing a uniform standard of what counts as interdisciplinary
scholarship... just joking...I resolve to continue to build the best
interdisciplinary programs available to students in the region and to link
those programs to life-long learning for our current students, our alumni, and
our community partners.
-Bruce Burgett,
Director, Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences Program
