UW Seal Chancellor's Monthly Report
Kenyon S. Chan, Chancellor
University of Washington Bothell

May 2009
Welcome to my Chancellor's Monthly Report, created specifically for University of Washington Bothell friends and supporters of the university. This Report highlights select UW Bothell events, news and information.

Kind regards,

Enrollment Continues to Rise
Enrollment figures for Fall 2009 continue to rise. To date, we have received a remarkable 1,155 applications for our incoming freshman class of 325 students. This is an almost 4:1 ratio of applicants to admits, mirroring, and in many cases outperforming, the finest institutions in our region. Transfer and graduate applications are on the rise as well.

Of particular note, applications for this incoming freshman class reveal an increase in diversity and in overall college preparedness (as seen in test scores).
Distinguished Teaching
UW Bothell is pleased to announce Dr. Peter Littig as recipient of the 2009 Distinguished Teaching Award.

Littig reflects the institution's core value of transformational education, 'engaging our students in transformational learning experiences that challenge their expectations, broaden their horizons, and stimulate their ambitions.'

He joined UW Bothell as an Assistant Professor in the Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences Program in 2005, and, in addition to establishing a calculus sequence for the institution's first class of freshman, has developed six unique courses, from Interdisciplinary Cryptography to Women in/and Mathematics, each echoing his commitment to real-world problem solving and interdisciplinary teaching and learning. Business Program Director Announced
Sandeep Krishnamurthy has been announced as the incoming Director of the Business Program, effective July 1. Krishnamurthy is the current Director of Graduate Programs for the Business Program and was instrumental in developing the new LMBA which will launch at a new Bellevue location in the Fall.

Says Susan Jeffords, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, "Sandeep has established a nationally-recognized and innovative record of scholarship, teaching and service...I know that the Business Program will benefit from his expertise and exceptional leadership."

He replaces outgoing director Steve Holland who has served in the role with distinction since 2002.  Read more.
Honor Roll
On May 15, UW Bothell inducted almost 30 students into its chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS). BGS is the leading honor society for students enrolled in colleges of business administration and eligibility for membership is extended to those considered among the very best academically. In fact, fewer than the top 10% of the UW Bothell senior undergraduate class and fewer than 20% of the graduating master's class are invited to receive this special honor.

Please join us in congratulating: Merve Aktas, Christopher Arden, Louis Bajuk-Yorgan, Robert Bernstein, Kirill Biliashov, Bradley Buske, Daniel Chang, Mike Clarke, Dawnelle Dutcher, Travis Fisher, James Floresca, Martha Floyd, Kerensa Fromherz, Jennifer Goulet, Nathan Hatfield, Charles Idle, Jeremiah Jewell, Laura Loesch, Michael Nachmanson, Melissa Norhtman, Alexandra Ogilvie, Neha Om, Mary Rainey, April Reagan, Michael Rousos, Joseph Stolte, Yinglu Sun, Uday Shivaswamy, and Carolyn Wickman.
